ok so we all might speed a bit .but what do you think about your 911 over 110.mph {in germany of course}i drive a 1987 targa {42000} but i find the car seems a little dead after 110,never taken it above 120 because it seems too stressed...... should there still be much pull at these speeds and also engine and road and wind {targa} noise seems also very high .my two 911s so far have been 911 sc cab .1983 ....and this beauty .1987 3.2 ....engine seems fine when pulling bottom end ... but what do you get top end ....

Are you kidding? The 3.2 engine only comes alive after 4000rpm.

I am not sure what you are doing but 4th pulls nearly 120mph and then 5th is still to come. I have been moderated for posting this before, but who cares. If on a hypothetical fairly empty, straight motorway, I hypothetically decided to keep my foot in it in fifth, then I have seen an indicated 160+mph with a little bit still to come. This probably equates to a true 150+mph. Sure, it doesn't pull at 110 in fifth like it does at 50 in second but its not slow either. Try redlining in 4th before changing into 5th.

The wind noise can be a tad uncomfortable at any speed over 90 with the targa roof off, I just turn the stereo up and put my foot down[:D]

The 911 Carrera Club Sport has no underseal, no rear seats, rear compartment trims, thinner carpet and reduced sound deadening. My car was raced, and the engine compartment sound absorber pads under the rear parcel shelf and against the bulkhead have been removed...

I can hear the noise of breaking wood, when I drive over a twig (the S02's don't help)

Is it "loud" ? Yes.

Can the radio help ? - up to 30mph - perhaps, but after that - no...(only 2 speakers)

However, it is not noise. It sounds just fine to me. At higher speeds however, it is significantly noisier (+6db @ 85mph) than the regular Carrera 3.2. I have often thought about ear defenders for some of the longer journeys !

Michael I think you are being a little timid with the loud pedal even my 145,000 mile SC will pull over the redline in top without needing too many yards of legal safe tarmac to do it. As Richard says explore what happens between 4,000 rpm and the redline it's perfectly safe for the engine if you use this part of the rev range.

And I needed to wear ear plugs OUTSIDE the car Bones..... ;-)

But that's the whole point & beauty of the symphonic noise of a 3.2 at 4k rpm plus, pounding down the "autobahn", should still pull strongly at 110mph.

If you want quiet may I suggest a Honda...

Prior to speed cameras on french autoroutes, I used to cruise at 120mph...without excessive wind noise, and my engine is original with 115,000 on the clock. as bones says...something cant be right there...

LH drive so a speedo in KPH. Had it sat on 240 which was just under the redline (in France of course). She would have pulled easily into the red. Didn't see the point though, the wife had already taken a photo of the dash by this time...best picture out of all the holiday snaps!!!!

P.s. As for pulling well at +110mph, it does, that is until you come up against a 996T, emm, pulled a tad bit better than my 3.2 that did. B@*tard!!!!

right . l think some of you have the wrong idea as to what im saying .when i said road noise i ment ...wheels, gearbox, axle ,not just engine .....after spending out over 3.000 on my last sc when it dropped a valve when red lining ...och..i think im allowed to be a bit worried and as for noise .when the two other cars you drive are a stage three copper with straight though pipe and a .1975 alfa spider again striaght though pipe ...noise is not a problem....both car also have rock hard rides as well...but when it comes to engine ...nothing beats the sweet sound of the 911....so what im getting at couild it be the wheel bearing {rear} the car is 1987 only done 43000....sat in a private collection for 8 years not moving {how sad}all other thing are original...wheel-trye setup..also ithink the targa make more noise when on than off...bloody wind noise you cant hear the engine....

Forgot to mention anything about wind noise, in a Targa it's something you live with at highish speeds, leaks you don't have too.

Regarding Targa wind noise, it's work checking the seals and how they all sit, mine previously were water tight, but made a hell of a racket, mainly due to the front edge sticking up a bit over the windscreen frame...

ok so you know what i mean then alan ...im sure it makes less noise when the roof is off...what did you do .i tried to adjust but there seemed very little movement...because the roof line seats about 5 mm above the windscreen frame ....what makes this even worse is know the bad weather is here to stay...and i have only just got the car back from a 13 week gearbox rebuild....bummer....there went my summer driving....and hello roof....

I'll look into that Alan, do you mean the beaded edge is flush with the topseal/screen frame on you car and that cuts the noise. After remaking mi roof that is the one area Icould improve, perhaps something heavy on there for a few days would help.

Chris they've been working you too hard again, see here.
