OPC Part Prices

ORIGINAL: pixie*porsche

As for "lowly" 944s, don't talk the model down, they are every bit as good as any other Porsche. In my opinion I now have the best Porsche I've owned and I've had 3x 944 (counting this one), 2x 911s (both SCs, one coupe, one targa) and a Boxster S.

Wait until you've had a 993 then your 944 will be the second best Porsche that you have owned! ;~))

I do, however, still miss my 944S2!

LOL never actually drove a 993! Still, nothing "lowly" about 944s.

Another good one for Sheffield parts department, advertised as open until 1 on a Saturday, but oh no everyone packed up and gone home at ten to. Why do I bother!!!

Presumably OPC's wouldn't be able to supply trim parts, ie square dash and door cards? Money is not going to be a problem, just want to get these bits sorted now as finding suitable replacement parts on EBAY has not been fruitful.

Actually, that's one of the few things I would unconditionally recommend a dealer visit for; particularly if you want new parts, rather than 20-year-old faded and broken second-hand parts.

Oli.

As I am restoring a 1983 924, I would not expect OPC to have everything in stock but I have found James and the team at the OPC in Colchester very helpful and have got parts in a few days for me. Prices for small parts like manifold studs and gaskets have been quite reasonable.

Kendal OPC parts are a great lot Jonathon and Andrew, get a look around the workshops and posh coffee and discount, always give them a call though they wanted £50 for a rotor arm, i have used Max at Frazerpart, James at Only 9, Bert Gear all good to deal with.

Yeah, the parts team at the Porsche Centre in Colchester are a good bunch - their prices are competitive to the Porsche centre in Exeter too...and with the Colchester dealership, you get the added bonus of being able to wander around the Ferrari/Maserati/Bentley dealerships, which are next to the Porsche Centre, when picking up parts!

I'd give a vote for OPC Tonbridge John & his team are always helpful, even when I'm asking about horribly obscure bits!
e.g. recently ordered hoses from the idle control valve for my 2.5 Lux & they were around a fiver each. At that point I gave up trying to identify which one of the 2 I wanted & ordered both.
Same order was clutch hard pipe which was under £30, it is a weird size & threads so gave up getting an all flexi one & just ordered that. All in at Tonbridge after 3 days as well.

OPC Reading is now my first port of call when the old girl decides she needs new bits to confirm that she is still loved. Most Recent purchases are

944 628 061 00 - Washer reservoir 86-> for cars with headlight washers (cure for occasional incontinence) @ £41.83
477 871 053 - Clip x 4 (sunroof trim for the attaching of - why the idiot previous owner didn't replace them when he broke them I have no idea) @£1.62 for 4

Service is unfailingly polite and prompt with genuine interest being shown in the car. Most parts are there for me "next day" with a phone call to tell me they're in. Smallest purchase has been for a massive £1.66 and they were just as polite and courteous as always, apart from consternation when I tried to pay cash and they needed to find change from a £2 coin. [:D]

No, they're not ALWAYS cheaper... but if the price is within ball-park I'd prefer to fit genuine new parts as opposed to used or third party. They also always ask whether I am a member of PCGB and discount accordingly.

Completely agree. If we want Porsche to continue to supporting these cars then it is only fair we should throw some business their way. Most other car marques don't even consider older cars and see them as an annoyance - I never got the feeling from Nottingham OPC that I was some sort of second class citizen - I always got the parts manager coming out to me to hand over the parts and he'd often have a chat, I never got hassled when I was taking a showroom browse around cars I clearly couldn't afford and I got the feeling that when I rang up for a parts quote that they actually looked for ways to reduce the price rather than just looking up the part number and quoting me the printed price.

It's easy for these aftermarket companies to set themselves up and undercut Porsche as they don't have their overheads and design and development costs to recover. Porsche bring the cars to market, create a market and they just piggy back off it like leaches often with sub-standard parts.

I don't think anyone wants the situation where parts are not available at all and you need to spend weekends at scrap yards pulling tatty parts off some rusted carcass of a car because there is no alternative option.
