OPC refuse to activate Dension GW500

Had another chat with OPC and the stance on warranty will be they'll not accept any car with modifications, whether it be a simple iPod interface or a set of wheels. If you go for the warranty and don't declare a mod the warranty will be void in the event of a claim, so not worth the risk, especially at the new price.

Phil Hindley at Tech 9 in conjunction with a major insurance provider is about to launch a warranty to cover modified cars whether Tech 9 did the mods or not. This is something he's been trying to sort for a while as a large part of his business is fitting Techart parts, re-maps, etc. Tech 9 did the work on my car, and I for one would not hesitate in using and recommending them, and I'll certainly take out their warranty.

Further details can be obtained from Tech 9, visit tech9.ms or e-mail Phil at ph@tech9.ms they are all very helpful. As soon as I have some product information I'll post details in the general chat room.

Why not have a word with the Insurance Services Ombudsman? IMHO, to refuse to renew a warranty on this basis is unfair and an unacceptable practice.

What would also be really useful is some real data so that I can assess the risks of not having the extended warranty. Given the new premium I certainly would not have a problem having to shell out a grand or two every few years on an item that would have been covered. My real fear is not having the cover and my engine going up in smoke and costing me £6k-£8k+. However in reality how often does this happen. If it is say 1 in 500+ cars I think I would be willing to take the risk and would simply invest the warranty payments instead. Is there any data available on the extent of these large claims or would Porsche prefer us not to know?

Porrohman, garyw started a thread "997 warranty survey" in the 997 club members only section and he's tabulated members feedback.
