OPC Warranty Criteria

As Mr Spock would say, it is not logical. I would have thought overrev was rather binary, you have/you have not.

Anyway, good news as they might find out on Monday what my Durametric has told me. I'm away for the week so will get the outcome on mine next Friday.

The word from Exeter OPC today is, although some PDK transmission cars have reported over-revs, it is the official policy to ignore these for warranty purposes.

So, from a practical point of view, it is not possible to over-rev engines operated with PDK transmissions.

Regards,

Clive.
At the last warranty renewal I was told I had a few Cat 1 over revs.

Suspect this might be out of date (ie the DFI engine might have different ranges):

Comes from a post on PH, I don't know its original source.

Back on overrevs, my car had its 2 year service mid-December and it had overrevs in bands 1, 2 and 3. I was told that bands 1 and 2 are disregarded on PDK vehicles. My "3" was 1 (one) only ignition which I was told is/are ignored by Porsche if they are up to 5 or 6 only in band 3 (as they might be artifacts of the electronics, rather than events).

One other point of note, the "3" one was initially reported as 78.16 hours since the event, whereas it is actually after 78.16 hours cumulative vehicle running (whilst owned by another OPC) so this might be something to get clear when discussing over revs (investment in a Durametric proved useful as two tests I ran showed the same event timing but with different cumulative running hours).

All resolved quite amicably....

Maybe i just got lucky - My local OPC renwed the warranty for 2 years at its 2 year service with no real isues. the car has been used in all sorts of conditions voer 16k miles some of them very enthusiastically (Gary - you know). But no problems reported.

I dont want to invoke murphys law but to date over 4 cars and 10 years of ownership the aprticulaar OPC has always done alright by me and I have been impressed with their service.

Fingers now firmly crossed!

This really concerns me as you book the car in for a service with the OPC and they organise the MOT via a third party.

I know I don't abuse my car, I had to put in the graft to be able to pay for mine, and also, I'm an excellent driver (... Dad lets me drive slow on the driveway every Saturday) so no downshifts at high revs from 6th to 3rd, etc.

The reporting is vague with the engine running time in hours; even if you keep a dated mileage log, you cannot easily work out when the over revs happenned.

So whilst 'in transit' from OPC to MOT, or on the MOT 'test run' we owners are completely at the mercy of that driver not abusing our trust, else we are left to foot the bill / consequences [:(]

Invest in a Durametric cable and check own overrev log before/after any third party drives?

Not that I think an OPC would deliberately do anything, but I must admit my first disappointment at Glasgow OPC was when I realized they were not themselves doing the MOT I entrusted to them, but having some unknown (to me) come an pick the car up for a "drive" to an MOT station.

Just got our car back today, new mot and the 111 point check,Everything ok except over rev in range 3
So booked in next week for compression check,The upside to this is our car is due a major service
in 10000 miles time.I was advised kindly by the technician to change the plugs whilst doing the test
then this comes off the bill when the major comes around.
Considering the price of the comp test is only £320.00+vat
We did work the over rev back to roughly the wales 997 drive, must have slipped a gear[:D] as it was
a very sedate, picturesque drive if I remember correctly[;)]

I was in a similar situation as yourself regarding the service work... they only charged me an additional £100 for the time being as they were doing most of the work as part of the service, sure they could have charged nothing but against the £600 I know others have been charged I was quite happy to pay the smaller figure!

I must get myself back up north Wales sooner than later......

Letter of intent for 991 Turbo Cabrio

Sorry to be a pain but what is the above? Our local OPC in the sticks here just says that there is no news on the 991 turbo and they are not taking orders. Is this something that I can do and what does it cost?

Btw I agree with everything about over revving with PDK, after all I am an early adopter having the much sneered at Tiptronic on my 994C4S as well as my 997 Gen 1 Turbo and on the track it has proved superb with the computer saving the engine frequenty. I expect the same from PDK just a shame the paddles exclude the electric steering wheel.

Cheers

Your dealer will be holding a list of interested parties- who have indicated they are interested in the particular model via a Letter of intent (to purchase)

Nearly all dealer will have a list already and it is just a letter from you, no cost involved as they can't take a deposit until the model is officially launched.
At that point they contact those on the list to see if they would like to continue with their interest and place a deposit.

Thanks Gary, will visit OPC tomorrow. Sad to see your Turbo go, what have you replaced it with?

Cheers
