optimal exhaust system for 964?

Hi, I'm currently running a Fabspeed RSR decay header + dual tip exhaust. However I find that it produces a deafening drone from 1k-3k rpm... I love how the exhaust note crackles on lift off, how it gargles and roars above 3k, but below 3k the harmonic is simply annoying.

Wanted to ask if anyone has experience with other exhaust systems... I heard FVD's brombacher is pricey but much more livable.

Hoping to find something that's quiet at low RPM, but can sing like a banshee when you give it the beans. If I can't find anything better might just go back to stock...

I have just had fitted a Hayward&Scott full system, looks and sounds great a growl not OTT or a chav sound.

I did have my concerns, over the how would it sound after it was fitted.

As you never know till you pick the car back up .

However overall very happy, its not a cheap system as people know but one of the best.
I did my research before my choice as well, they have a very good rep for there workmanship.

I'm very happy with my recent setup:

Cat bypass and Cup pipe by Design Tek (from Design 911), at £400 + fixings
Standard final box (in OSR wing)
Re-map by BBR-GTI resulting in a smooth, tractable 267 bhp.

No annoying drone, just a pleasant, deep sound.

I have the same system and it's a lovely sound though if you go to trackdays you'll find it measures 108dB which is too noisy for most tracks.

H&S system for me too - dual outlet. Had it built around 4 years ago - paid about £600 from memory. Passed a 105Db noise test at Brands - H&S also provided some removable bungs to reduce the sound even further should it fail a noise test.

Hi Talat I think it was nearer £1,600 as the current prices are £2,160.

Sorry I didn't read the OP's thread properly, I now realise that he's talking about a full system where as mine was just the back box - that will explain the price difference [;)]

Have a look at these guys

Don't go to English side of the website as nothing works. Bought my single outlet, non heater, complete system from these guys. Relatively quick turn around, extremely well made and nice and light. Sound is great also.

As ever, dealt with a highl efficient very pleasant German lady who spoke perfect English so transaction was painless.

It looks a good system Ben but no heat??

There are some creature comforts I do like, so how is it without heat. Do you live in a hot climate?

I went for the non-heat version as the car is track focused and I wanted to cut the weight down. They do versions with the heat exchangers too so you can still have your comfort if you wish.

Cheers.

Dekker - EUR 3,300 was the damage so a bit more expensive than H&S system by the sounds of it but my system included the 100 cell race cats which bumped up the price. Needed the cats to suppress the noise and keep the system in the 100 db range for track days.

This is the email of the lady I spoke to. She was very helpful!

Cheers.

Looks lovely and efficient too : nice find! How does the sound compare to stock? My Fabspeed has me scared of performance mufflers - I have this unshakeable fear of droning at 1k-3k rpm...

It sounds great but I can't give you a true response as the system was put on after having a complete motor rebuild which included 3.6 to 3.8, different cams, ali to plastic inlet manifold so just too many changes. Car has LWT carpets, but no headlining and a roll cage. Sound is great in my opinion. Drove to the Ring and back with no problem and no need for plugs.

Worst drone I've ever experienced wasn't from an exhaust but from Toyo 888's - nice and sticky but God awful noise!

Here is a picture of system mounted on new motor right before it was installed.

That's just lovely! I'm driving kids around, so actually am leaning towards going with oem exhaust with sport cat and cup pipe; might regress to just oem with sport cat if that's too much.

I think your system is the same as the FVD!

Ben,

I'm interested in your system for my lightweight-ed 964.

I know you bought direct from M&M but I've looked on the FVD English language site for reference purposes - can you advise what model it is on the FVD site?

Also have you any feedback yet for UK tracks re: dB levels/issues?

Thanks!

That works out at about £2,700 at today's rate.
With a race 100 cell cats will cost £600.
The H&S system decat costs £2k and that's with heat.
So little difference in price.

eean - I believe this is it on FVD's site.

They are advertising it at circa Eur 4k with subjectivity that price is old and therefore likely to change. One would presume upwards.......

No problem at Brands GP Circuit last year but usual trick of not quite 80% revs, clutch depressed etc etc just to make sure. Here's pic of car it lives in. It's a lovely little thing!
