Paintwork protection on new cars

Hi Guys, sorry but this just is not true, with a quality PPF it will not go murky or opaque, rubbish films will (theres a few about) as for scrapes again not true, 3M film will take low speed scuffs (up to approx 15MPH) it will leave a mark (as you would expect) as for stones going straight through it, in 3 Years I have only seen one example, our demonstrator had done 65,000 miles from new (subaru wrx STI) with no film failure no loss of gloss (nearly 3 years old now) and it took a 2LB rock dropped from a motorway bridge onto the bonnet (nearly killing the wife) to penetrate the film. Not everything that hits a car is a stone, wheel nuts for example, screws etc and these stand a good chance of penetrating. We have pics of cars that have run into other vehicles and the film has survived (even though the car did not) We fit Carrera GT's for customers of Porsche GB and I recently saw one we did over a year ago at Reading which is now with a dealer in Leic I checked the car over minutely, no failure no damage to the car and this car was not a Hangar queen!!

Cheers

Tom

That's interesting - I've seen a lot of other people's comments on other forums to say that the paint protection film is pretty good and almost invisible on a dark car!

Certainly not in my experience. Over time the film starts to get more and more opaque with the effects of the weather etc, and is plainly visible from some distance. Johns comment about chips going straight through is very true, and also it won't protect you from other forms of damage, or scrapes and dings.
