PCGB CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP & GT3 CUP CHALLENGE 2011

Be there tomorrow ...... watched the practising today .... Chris W and Paul Ward peddling hard, they are also in it with the big kettles, a lot of GT3 should be some good "amateur" racing in the spirit of the Club .... Good luck Boys ... [:)]

Good day Gents? Looks like quali was hard, Chris only got 4 laps. I see Paul out quali'd Chris by a smidgen, and that you both improved your quali times in the race. Jiudging by Paul's race times, I'd guess that you are still learning the car, that or the track came to you quite a bit. Also looks like Paul's FTD was 3/10ths faster than Chris's, you both look pretty close on the pace. A bit frustrating that the grid is full of 996 GT3s, I suspect. Will there be more cars in your class later in the year? Anyway, lets hear the gory details!! And well done for getting out there![:D][:D] Wish I could have made it down, but hopefully will get to see you later in the year.

had a great day. Excellent racing all round. Paul and Chris looked like they were having a ball. Can see how this stuff draws you in. As H says their times got better and better during the day , as they got to grips with the car. good day out all round.

Looks to me from TSL that they were in both the PCGB champs and GT3 challenge races, so both got two races each. Well done to the car for doing four races plus qualifying in the same day!

Hi Hugh and Steve. [:)] We attended the test sessions on the day before which comprised of only 4 x 30 minute sessions. We used the sessions to optimise the tyre pressures. With the pressures too high, after about 6 laps, I could feel the rear of the car squirm under braking for Paddock Hill Bend only. Some cars span off on out-laps. Our strategy was to get track time and stay on the black stuff. We walked the track on Friday night which was a great help. The track is very 3-dimensional with huge inclines and cambers that you just don't notice sat in the car. On race day: the car performed faultlessly. It used about 1 litre of oil over the whole day. As our lap times dropped, by 8 seconds, and consequently the tyre pressures increased: we had to drop the tyre pressures again. Mixing with the GT3s was awesome. Has to be the best seat to view the action. [:D] Some skill required to gauge where they are going to pass you without ruining your own line. They lap you every 5 laps so lots of concentration required. The marshalls were superb with plenty of notice with the blue flags and applause on the in-lap. [:)] Finished 9th out of 11 starters. [:)] Chris Finished 6th out of 9 starters. [:D] Car 91 was on the score-board - awesome [:D][:D][:D] The Club Championship was great fun - finishing 14th out of 15 starters. Chris finished 14th out of 17 starters. We had to avoid lots of spinners and off-roaders! One of the HRDC cars dropping oil all the way along the Brabham straight didn't help anyone and my eyes were on stalks watching cars wheel-spinning and sliding on the oil/dust in front of me at the race start. It was a daunting prospect to drive a 968CS for the first time on the track, our first ever visit to Brands Hatch and our first ever testing sessions, scrutineering, qualifying and racing - all in 2 days. Only 5 hours sleep a night recently. Tremendous encouragement received from Paul Seagrave, Paul Folwell, Richard Ellis, Chris Dyer, Dave Forrest, Tim Speed, Paul Winter and Malcolm Scott. [:)] It was great to have our friends Laurence, Des, Lesley, Ivor and Elaine join us in the pit garage. [:)][:)][:)]

Hadnt spotted that you had done the other races too. Thats a great result then. Also to have not done any preseason testing was brave, certainly a baptism of fire, good that you came through it so well then!! You must have been knackered after 3 sessions in the car in one day! Of course its a down hill slope from here. :)

Congratulations on your first races, and a 100% finish rate - great stuff. Look forward to catching up with you ate the Donington round. Ian

Thanks Ian, Hartwig, Steve, H and Des. [:)] Yes - we were both totally shattered H. The car though wanted to go on some more! With hindsight - it probably was asking too much in the time we did it. And to finish all the races was a minor miracle on our debut. [:D] We were like bunnies in the headlights. [8D] We would have missed out something vital if it wasn't for Chris Dyer 'phoning us to tell us where to be and when and Dave Forrest assisting us at scrutineering. There was so much to do. Chris Dyer had his own car and races to mangage without mothering us. [:D]

It will all start to flow after a few, if you are anything like me, you'll still be buzzing now, re-living the racing in your head. I do find putting all the bits you cant race without in one box/bag helps. The number of people I've seen arrive at circuit without steering wheel / FIA switch / race licence / gloves / keys * delete as appropriate. The excitement stays. Where are you next? Ah! Croft I see - quite a circuit, at least you've seen it before!

Sorry to be so late to the party, but I've been processing a few pics !!! [:D] Mega thanks to all for the moral support, Des, Leslie, Ivor, Elaine, Lawrence and his Father, and the astonishing help of the Strasse team, Steve Kevlin etc etc --- the other competitors (who we will get to know !) really made us feel most welcome, and some even passed us gently [:D][:D][:D] Here we go ---

Thanks Paul. [:)] That photograph was taken during a testing session on Friday. The blue car was in the HRDC Touring Greats races. Don't be deceived - the car/driver was quick.
