PCM 3.0 update?

Not heard about the update from my OPC either.

The only issue mine has had is the loss of phone from time to time (re-pairing fixes) and about once a month after starting the journey to work the PCM system decides to reset itself.

Regards
Mark

Wot, your only issue? What about no full post code and a database that is insufficiently populated to state just a couple of faults. Try finding 22 Sunnycroft, Downley, High Wycome. You can with PCM 2 but not 3. PCM 3 will not even find Stonehenge in POI, a National Heritage Site!!

I think the update will be for bugs not deficiencies if it indeed exists. The Nav database is probably another issue altogether.............Still, maybe VW will be better at keeping the customer satisfied?!

Hi Derek,

To be fair, yes PCM3.0 has issues as you listed. My current experience of PCM3.0 has been overall, a better one than that with PCM2.0.

Cannot find Stonehenge... must give that one a go...

Anyone else experienced the "reset on the go" issue?

Regards
Mark

Stonehenge is in the database but it was difficult to find! I got there by going "POI", "Tourism/Historical monuments" and just put in a UK search. It listed hundreds and down there near the bottom was Stonehenge.[;)] If you type in Stonehenge as a POI though it can't find it. How bonkers is that?

Hi Mark

Ive had my gen2 about a week now ive also had a number of resets. You get short high frequence buzz then it resets. Only seems to happen if i have it in map view!?

Other problems:
- Gen5IPOD doesnt charge
- iPhone 3Gs also doesnt charge

Other than that...loving it!

Anyone else with similar problems?

Cheers.

Mark

I'm concerned now :) .....I've not had any resets (famous last words), nor had problems with phone losing it's pairing. A problem I sometimes get with the IPOD video is it doesn't reconnect when starting the car up. Not happening all the time but is a pain as you need to detach and reattach the IPOD. Oh and my ipod touch obviously not charging [] (know a new cable required).

Other than that, not seen these issues 7k miles into ownership.

I had a Gen2 for a while and also couldn't get my Iphone to charge (I tried the USB cable and the docking cable), it sometimes didn't recognise it at all, but when it did, it was great!

It reset once today and twice yesterday.

OPC (Sutton) said they will look into it.

Older ipod works fine although once had to be connected/reconnected.

You mention a cable for the ipod touch......i would have thought it would be compatible with it being about for a while now??? Where did you hear about this cable? Is it a Porsche supplied cable or after market?

Have you or anyone else tried the USB method of getting music onto the PCM?

cheers

Mine has reset twice in a year - once after going down a slope into a car park and once after going over a large speedbump!!

Apple changed the way that the Ipods charge catching everyone out...[:(]
I can't see the thread at the moment but Yes I remember reading it was a Porsche supplied cable

garyw

It reset once today and also cut out during a phone call so i think there must be somthing up with mine......I.e. connection. The reset was while going over a speedbump!

Cheers

When you say it "reset", what actually happens because I've had no problem with mine except for dropping the bluetooth link with my phone. I've worked out that if the phone is in range before you switch on the ignition then all is well. But if you do it the other way round, i.e introduce the phone to the system when it's already up and running it doesn't want to pair with the phone and I would have to go through the whole rigmarole of entering that long code again!

Mark,

I also get the short high frequence buzz then it resets. The reset is a total shutdown and reset of PCM3.0, black screen and then to Porsche screen. Mainly happens in map view but I have had it reset in Tuner mode.

My iPhone 3G does not charge via the iPod connector so I just take the USB>Ipod lead and charge the phone that way. My iPod is an older one and have no problems charging. I understand a newer cable may fix your problem.

The reset function is a pain, but I doubt Porsche can fix it as it is so intermittant.

The other Mark

As the other Mark said.....you get a short "zzzT" noise and then the porsche screen comes up.

I've just been out for a quick blast and left the map off.......no resets!!!!So i'm inclined to think that it could be a "feature/bug"???

On a side note: Ive just loaded a USB stick with some folders containing MP3s and it worked wonderfully. Just the same as the IPOD, in that it reads all the tracks and presents them through the PCM. Fantastic and worries about charging!!!!!

Cheers

Hi Mark
there is a new cable available from the opc for about £12 that fixes the charging issue on the latest generation iPods and iPhones. It has two connectors on the car end for the iPod and USB sockets.

The new connector came standard on my new Gen 2, but not the old Gen 2. However, you cannot use it and a USB memory stick at the same time as it uses the USB connection

An an associated point about PCM 3 does anyone know whether there are any updates planned to the compatible phone list?
I seem to be the only member on here who has a T Mobile G1 and whilst PCM3 sees the phone OK it does not see my contact list even though T Mobile kindly switched all the contacts to the SIM card for me. Or maybe there is a G1 Apps update coming, anyone know about this phone?
My OPC says get a Nokia or Blackberry.
