PCM not working

I had a flat battery, which the local garage replaced for me. Since then the PCM is showing no signs of life. The CD changer in the front will not eject the CD's either and from that i guess there is no power to the system. Everything else in the car works just fine.

I could go back to the local garage, but wanted to ask here first before they screw something else up.

Any ideas?

That's the first thing I would check. Instructions are in the manual.

The fuse panel is in the driver's footwell. Pull off the cover and all will be revealed. There should be a paper insert with the fuse assignments but I would check these:

E5
E6
E8
D8 (if it has one).

Row A is the top, B is the second, etc.
Fuse numbers are counted from left to right.

There is also a fuse on the back of the PCM unit, but you have to take it out to get to it.

It is possible the fitting garage momentarily reversed the polarity on the battery - that will certainly blow the fuse on the back of the PCM unit, but is cheap and easily replacable.

Was dark when i got home last night so i will have a look tonight. Will it be obvious if a fuse has blown? or will i have to pull them all out one at a time and look at each fuse?

Thx

The fuse D9 was blown. There was a spare so i replaced it with the spare and ............................. and still no life in the PCM and no life in the CD changer in the front either. Rest of the car remains working fine.

D9 - was labeled "sound" in the booklet

Definitely try the fuse on the back of the PCM, that will likely be the culprit if D9 was also blown.

Ok, thanks. i will book her in bcoz i'm not mucking around in there.
Whilst they are doing that maybe they can attach an ipod docking station....is that simple easy?

Dan,

If only it were that simple!!!

The only sure way of incorporating Ipod with interoperability into the PCM 2 is via a 3rd party application such as the Dension Gateway 500. I have one fitted (not into the back of the PCM) into the fibre optic MOST ring which fools the PCM into thinking the GW500 is the 6CDC system.

This emulation allows me to see and search all the functions (most anyway) of the iPod such as Playlists, Artists Albums etc on the screen of the PCM using the PCM controls.

There are other applications of this type but I haven't any experience of their effectiveness.

Is it worth taking the car back to the local dealer to have a look at the PCM? if its just a fuse it will be cheaper and may even be free, certainly cheaper than OPC

If by 'local dealer' you mean Porsche Indy, then yes. If you mean a local garage, then I doubt if they would know the correct way to get the PCM unit out to get to the fuse at the back. Where are you located - maybe someone can recommend a local independent.

I just remembered its due a service now anyway so will get everything done at the same time.
Do i get a discount off the service with membership here?

Yes you should, some do 10% off parts only, where others do it off the entire bill

Just want to say ..............I LOVE MY PORSCHE!
Still brings a smile to my face everytime i drive her[:D]

Take care everyone;-)

Seems my local non-Porsche garage put the new battery in the wrong way round. Luckily they must have noticied straight away and swapped it around otherwise much more damage could have been done. All i needed was 3 fuses costing £1.12, £1.12 and 39p...happy dayz. Only down side was £100 labour but i consider myself lucky that was all i had to pay. That i could tell the OPC what the problem was, that the fuses had blown, also saved some cash too.

Thanks

Danny don't think I'd be using them again anytime soon, pretty basic error and then not to have checked everything was working ok is bad form. Glad you got it sorted though
