PCM sat nav updates on CD, not hard disc....?

You may need to update the PCM firmaware to be able to run the new maps, the above part number also comes with the update discs to do the but does not come with any instructions.
The dealer should be able to do this for you or if you PM me I can send you the tech bulletin for the previous map update, the instructions are the same as the 2007/2008 map updates.

The OPC Parts Manager informed me that all 987s incorporate PCM version 2.1, and therefore all are upgradeable. The installation instructions state explicitly that only an OPC is authorised to upgrade the PCM, and therefore no user instructions are included with the update pack.
My only problem now is to figure out how to use the new facilities. It would be useful to know how to ensure that TMC (obstructions/detours etc) is working, and how to enter a destination postcode. Any guidance from owners of newer models would be much appreciated. Is the latest PCM manual available online?
So go for it, ianmac.
I have only seen the 2005 version of the PCM manual online and I only have a USA hard copy which does not detail the TMC features.
However, from what I can remember (I am in Kenya at the moment), if you select MAP then SET there is an option there to display the Traffic Information, and the other is selected from NAVI, routing options, you will now have a new option Dynamic Routing which takes into consideration current traffic conditions.

I still don't think its full postcode search?, only the first 5 digits.. I'd be interested to know if its now a full search.
TMC will be apparent with the lovely blue triangles and routes all over the M6 and M42 !!
Selecting the route options will give you the choice to select the routes via the TMC information - which has saved me a fair few hours on the road!!

I am assured that post codes can be used as destinations, but I'm not sure if it's just the first four characters or the whole code. I have yet to discover how to use them!

I use OPC Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham - http://www.porschehost.com/home.asp?opc=suttoncoldfield. Call them and ask for Ben in Parts; he is a very knowledgeable and helpful guy.

I have not yet tried the postcode search on the latest version. However, I can confirm the the 2008 version of the map does not have full 7 digit search.

TMS seems to be working - although all my triangles are red.
I have found a PCM 2.1 user manual in pdf format on ebay here - a fiver including postage (for a pdf?).

Regarding post code search I think this is a hang up of the system being german hence the maximum number of digits is shorter than we use over here. Once the post code has been entered you are presented with the streets and addresses that fall under the area digits input. To be honest I rarely use the post code function, the predictive text is a more useful feature of the update. This is where the letters that are not plausable for the next imput are greyed out on the address input. Eg Z following S is not a valid town for the UK so Z is greyed out after an S has been input.
Can anyone explain the differences between the 2006 update and this one? wondering now its been a while whether to bother or not.
thanks!
