PDK worries....

Anthony

Hi there... just noticed some gearbox whine in 2nd on my '09 Gen 2 S. Anybody else had a similar hassle at 35K miles?
"Anxious"

Not to our knowledge, Anthony. Do you have extended warranty? Are you certain it's from the gearbox? Presumably if it's only present in one gear that must be a clue?! Does the whine pitch increase with speed? Bit more info please!

This is the first problem I've heard of with the PDK transmission.

Can you replicate the noise at the same engine speed in different gears? If so it may be a peripheral like the alternator, water pump etc.

If it a gearbox problem, then I hope you have warranty as I believe the units are not serviced, only replaced. [:(]

I think your PC will have to be your next stop.

Good luck.

Clive.

Anthony - good luck with this please update the thread when you get an outcome/ conclusion

Hi guys, thanks for your responses. It is only in second. Am booked into PC next Monday. It would indeed appear that P do not let their centres work on gearboxes. If topping up the fluid doesn't work, it would appear that a new box is the alternate solution. A terrifyingly expensive situation but for the safety net of an extended warranty, which I am delighted to say has till August 15 to run...
I have arranged to have the PCM upgraded at the same time; will report back in due course!

Posted a further note but it seems to have disappeared! Booked in for next Monday. I gather that if topping up the fluid level doesn't do it, option B is indeed a new box! Rather scarily expensive but for the safety net of extended warranty. Have asked for upgrade on PCM at the same time and will report back in due course...

Never heard of one needing oil between services either. If it does need a new 'box that will be about 10 years worth of extended warranty in one hit!

Yikes![&:]
We await the results.

From a breakers yard, 13k miles PDK 'box for £2500, hmmmm.......... Sounds like good value and, if I had no warranty and needed a replacement 'box, would probably give it a whirl. The voice in the other ear is saying "there are those things you can buy on eBay with confidence and then there are those........."[&:]

No solution as in they can't find a problem or can't decide whether to replace the 'box under warranty?

[:)] Quite! Monday arrived and I was told that they had ordered a replacement PDK box, but not had approval from Germany. If I didn't hear from them by close of business it was OK.... at the risk of seeming pushy I politely suggested that I would rather have a call from them to put my mind at rest than sit about worrying all day! Call duly came - unlike the gearbox which didn't arrive til today. Fitting and calibration today and tomorrow and (possibly) ready for collection Saturday.

The PDK gearbox is the area that worries me most, if I keep my car over the 3 years and decide not to renew the warranty and install something like a Capristow exhaust, engines can be repaired but it seems gearboxes just have to be replaced.
I suppose one alternative is to use something like Techart and one of there warranties.

Techart warranty..

but I guess you need to have their kit installed at a no doubt appropriate cost.
