PDK worries....

[:mad:] Hell's Bells! OPC finally rang me at 4.45 to give me an update. Car won't be ready till Monday! Apparently the PDK box they have to fit requires a further part to connect to the transmission. I would have thought that perhaps the stores at Reading would be aware of such an issue and sent the [sm=spanner1.gif] part with the PDK!!! So I will now have had the modern equivalent of a Ford Anglia as my daily driver for a full 14 days. Enough to make you want to spit. In passing, the OPC say they have only fitted 3 replacement PDK boxes previously... guess I'm just lucky. Techie said that the box has evolved (?) since introduction and the linkage is part of that evolution... maybe I'll get the 991 software to go with the box!

991 software is for Gen 2 pdk boxes with the lighter clutches stop start technology coasting automatically when off the gas pedal facility. Only way you will get all that is buy a 991 [:D][:D]

Take a look at their website; they indulge in a lengthy analysis of European law on warranties!

Whatever they say on their website is irrelevant with regard to the Porsche Extended warranty. This is an insurance product governed by its own rules.

So, if what Capristo say is correct, you could fit their exhaust for the first two years of ownership as that is covered by the new car warranty rules, i.e. BER. But, after that any Porsche extended warranty would be refused/invalidated as the year 3 and beyond is the insurance product.

what might one expect to pay for an extended warranty? I have one which runs out in March 2015 at which point the car will be 5 years old....

£1189, which includes the optional Porsche Assist breakdown cover. £2315 for two years. You may have to pay for the 111 point check if your car isn't being serviced at the same time but worth discussing that with your local PC. As I had over £3500 worth of warranty work in the last year it seems pretty good value for money to me.[;)] You could look at other warranty schemes but, IMHO, none come close to the cover you get with the Porsche extended warranty. No excess for a kick off...[:)]

For official Porsche one look here;

Prices include recovery service which is about £170 standalone.

Have you got it back yet, Anthony?

Well.... the saga continues. Car wasn't available on the Friday.. or Saturday, as (allegedly!) Reading didn't send all necessary parts to connect the replacement PDK box. Finally returned on Monday, so Pcarless for two whole weeks. Seemed fine driving home, not much driven during the week, then ran down to Lambourne on the Friday smoothly. On Saturday afternoon hit traffic caused by a three-car pileup on M4, and had to crawl for 20 minutes. Suddenly had clutch issues - a bit of a judder! Same thing happened on Monday and then on Tuesday with the wife driving, so now booked back to OPC for Thursday for further attention. Bit of a worry. At least they replaced one rear light cluster and both gaskets... bit of a design fault there. Not a good place to store rainwater!

It would seem to me extremely unwise NOT to extend the warranty! Six months down the line and no problems with gearbox #2. Last month the replacement rear lamp unit almost fell off... lack of torque applied when fitting. One star head screw had fallen out, the second was loose. Dropped in to West London to find that they could not replace the screw - the whole unit (fixing lamp for the use of) was required at £8 odd. West Byfleet paid for it!
