who knows what a 'sweat' is. According to the pictures in the manual the amount of oil leak qualifies as a leak. The latest approach is that they will replace the sump seal at the bottom of the gearbox, free of charge as a goodwill gesture. They said when they remove one it will be clear whether it has failed and that this would be the solution.

Replacing the gearbox sump is good, if of course it addresses the issue.
The image I posted earlier is of a sweating oil pan. It was a minor leak which with air passing over it tends to spread all over the place and if unaddressed over time looks like a major leak

It's very definitely a leak. You just need to look at the hose beneath to see how damp it is.
Such things seldom get better by themselves and with further deterioration, this problem might well become a hazardous one. Resealing the pan may or may not resolve the issue, but replacing the pan would be more robust and probably more economic in the end too. Lack of progress, will need you to become more pro-active. Submit an independent report from a recognised engineer to Porsche, accompanied by a request to resolve the problem at the earliest possible opportunity.

Good advice - I could show you a photo of my sump ( I looked yesterday ) and it's bone dry and clear - you have a leak. Replacing the sump seal is a start and worth doing, replacing the sump may be a better idea as stated. But what bothers me is that there is oil much higher up in the engine bay - well above the sump seal - oil doesn't flow upwards that far - did you tell them this and what did they say?
Definitely time for a second opinion as Clive says.

did about 100 miles in mine on sunday, it's 6 years old, and does show some salt/age marks - but dry.

p.s. think that's the engine sump rather than pdk sump - as I can't see that far under without a ramp - but as you can see from the short video clip - the whole area is bone dry - which is what I meant and hopefully still of use to you. zero drips on the driveway below for the several years I've owned it similarly.
So I am delighted to report problem solved!
OPC Hatfield fitted a new gearbox sump as a gesture of 'goodwill' so no cost to me but apparently they could not claim in under the Porsche Warranty. They agreed I could inspect it in 500miles after the PCGB Silverstone track day yesterday. Today, I got it up on friends ramp a little closer to home than Hatfield and ...no oil leak. Woohay!
Silverstone was brilliant yesterday, dry in the morning then a massive rain shower, closing the track for about half an hour to drain the standing water, soon after lunch. Fantastically organised event. So much fun and so much petrol (2 tanks!)
Special thanks to Clive and his video clip above, which nailed the problem.
