Pretty quiet on the 928 forum but been toying with this for the past few weeks and couldn't resist in it gorgeous Tahoe blue. PCGB stickers and loads of Porsche post magazines, massive history file with invoices totaling £19,000 anyone know anything about it? Showing 113900 miles with every MOT.

Done around 2000 miles since 2009, MOT'd last June and then sat at the garage until i drove it away today. Surprised at how tight it was, electrics need work not surprisingly. First thing is off to Paul Anderson for belts and a check over.

Will post some better photos when she's had a wash.

Cheers
Paul.

When I looked at my first 944 at 911 Virgin, there was a lovely 928 for sale at the same price. Tom warned me off at the time, as a basic Lux was far cheaper to run than a 928.

There's a huge itch I need to scratch with the 928 though. I was taken to see the press car, a gold 928 with the plate THE 928S, as a kid, and encouraged to push the rear bumper in to see how it popped back out after light impacts.

That's a perfect combo of colour and wheels, and I look forward to the progress!

You're right it's quiet on the 928 foum. Get in touch with the Register Secratary and ask him to promote it more? [&:]

We must be a similar age Paul [;)] as i remember that press car as well.

I'm scratching the 928 itch as well as trying to hang onto the S2, the 928 needs some work but had lots of work done around 10K miles ago including the torque tube. Needs front discs and belts plus oil and brake fluid.

Will need plenty of hours TLC coaxing the electrics back into life and cleaning the interior. Body is really clean with great underside and cills. Bumper needs painting and some really minor bubbling in three places.

Delighted with it and the history came as a surprise as I was led to believe there was none.

Nice one. I too would like to add a 928 to my garage at some point. Seem to be the forgotton Porsche and incredible value for money now when you think they were considered a real supercar in their day. That blue realy suits the car. Not seen one in that colour before.

Every couple of months I start thinking that I really need a 928 as I do love the things, for a while I even thought about trying to run one along side my turbo but not sure my bank balance could cope !

If I was a hands on mechanic then perhaps I would, but depending on others to sort the things that go wrong on a 928 means it remains a pipe dream for me for now at least. [&:]

Lovely looking 928 - really fancy one myself, but not sure I would want one instead of the 951, and can't really merit a fourth car!!

How do they drive compared to the 944 - I imagine them to feel much more of a GT car, more of a cruiser?

I almost bought a 928 a few weeks ago (if I had known about it being for sale sooner!). It was an otherwise sound 1984 928S with poor paintwork ; I knew the car as well. It went for £1500 with an MOT. With the minor issues it had it was IMO a bargain. However, I do know that parts prices on those are scarily priced and that their MPG is not great! But the pace and power and the glory...

£1500 with an MOT??

That sounds like a billy bargain!! I can remember a few years back when you could get a cheap 928 for a couple of grand, but very rarely see them as cheap as that now!

I've never had a V8 - 4 pots, 5 pots, 6 pots but never a V8 - must fix that one day!

As the owner of both cars 928 and 944 I would say there a lot of myths about 928's expensive to run complicated etc and yes the 928 auto is a big GT car ideal long distance high speed cruiser however the
manual car is big smile fun, fun, fun, and much closer to the 944 S2 drive I would suggest if you haven't already try a 928 preferably a manual and the itch will get much worse :) .
mine are tucked up for the winter but will be back on the road from the end of March , so if you live near or want to travel to the Salisbury area from April forward happy to let you get a feel for Porsche's
original SUPERCAR

a gold 928 with the plate THE 928S

I remember seeing that car/plate one night on the M5 in Worcestershire when I was early teens - it was a real wow car then. [:)][:)]

Like seeing a McLaren today

Love them and also have an itch (not crabs !) had a BMW 7 series 735I V8 Awesome engine, i put a pound coin on the engine end on ala the original adverts on tickover, and sure enough it never wavered [;)]

Yes, I've never forgotten the tuned Rover SD1 Vitesse I ran in early 90's -I used to balance a 50p coin on edge on the engine without it toppling-0 to 70 plus in 2nd gear !
(if I remember correctly)

Only driven it briefly but definitely a GT car, just found some great storage for it just up the road in an insulated fruit farm store as I cannot have three cars in our courtyard. It comes home tonight and gets bloody good clean tomorrow. This one came in at £2000 with a huge history file and 5 months MOT, a pretty good deal.

The crazy thing is the insurance, could not add it to the value agreed S2 policy so had to start from scratch. 5k miles a year, 3K value, social use only myself, my wife and my brother, fully comp with no no claims, secure storage and clean licences..............................£89.70 and no I have not missed out a digit, gobsmacked to say the least. Autonet are the company and been around for a few years.

I was amazed to get a price from Paul Anderson of £550 + VAT for belts and water pump so it goes there next Saturday. The rest i can do myself fortunately, if I added up the hours I have put into the S2[8|] paying for those could make it cost prohibitive.

Someone has spent a lot on this including calipers and torque tube in 2006, done 10k ish since then so hoping for no surprises.

Cheers
Paul.

Great purchase -what really surprised me about the 928 supercar was when I had a good look underneath-it just looks like a giant tortoise with everything smoothly fitting into gaps in the underbody-as owners of 5 tortoises a picture very familiar to us.

If I had found one like that for that kind of money I would not have bought my 968, the Mrs really wanted a 928 looks fab in Tahoe Blue unusual colour cant wait to see it all cleaned up[:D]

Looks like a smart buy - good luck with it

I would love a 3.0 turbo 16v Manual in one if I ever find the opportunity. Porsche missed so many opportunities in the 928 / 944 & 968 models due to a silly strategy of the 911 must be top of the model line-up

the 928 is still as gorgeous looking as when it was first launched.

I remember seeing my first 928 parked outside a shop in Yeovil back in 1980's and I was just stunned with its beauty. I walked round that huge rear end and felt sad that I'd never be able to afford one .

Roll on 20 years and I finally got one of my own .... a 1979 auto and it was everything I imagined it would be.
After a couple of years ownership I had to sell it on. It was too expensive to run. Every time I thought of using it for work I'd work out the cost of the petrol and soured the pleasure of driving it. Mind you I'd frequently cover 250+ miles a day over 3x Counties .

My lasting impression was a very powerful car but very dated (vacuum door locks !) not particularly comfortable compared to my S2 but a V8 burble to die for.
My dream classic Porsche would be my S2 with a 928 engine [;)]

It was! You have PM :).

Lovely colour, sounds like a great buy.

A bit curious about the exhaust outlet pipes... if the wheels and the rear badge suggest this is an S4, the twin pipe outlet was originally only found on the GT?
