Picking up a 944 tomorrow!!

ORIGINAL: Clint B

Cheers for the pointers Fen. I'll take this on board when I go see him tommorow, and ask about those wheel spacers. Out of interest do the spacers affect the way the car should drive? Are there any problems with them?? How much would they offset the wheel width?? About 3-5mm would be my guess??
Now wheres the pick of that blemish ...
[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Spacers would be over 1" to make up the difference between the older offset and the later one. Last possibility is that someone made Design 90 replicas to suit the older offset like they did Cup wheels. I have no idea if they did but genuine D90s will have the rim width and the offset cast either side of the valve stem. They should be 7 and 8 front and rear and the offset is 52 or 55 (forget which way round). To emphasise the difference with older offset cars they run offsets of around 23, so something like 30mm different.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I've been trying to think if it's possible a C-plate car was built with ABS offset but I don't see any way that was possible - it came out pretty much with E-reg I think.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Hi Clint and a belated welcome, I reckon PCGB would value that car about £3.5k, if you could get it at £2.5k, youll have done well. Zermatt Silver is a brilliant colour, far better IMO than red (ducks!). If you get the car try and come down to Hastings this Sunday , theres quite a gathering of 944s. Details elsewhere on this forum. Welcome again,

Yep, that looks perfect for a S.M.A.R.T repair (small to medium area repair technology). Contact a local guy and he'll be able to hide that nicely. Because its right in the middle of a flat panel he may have to paint the entire area between the key hole and that seam on the left so that you get a perfect match. I wouldn't have thought it will take more than a few hours.

Cheers guys! Well, I picked her up last night!! Looks lovely on my drive! When the sun decides to come out I'll get some proper photos of it. I'd love to come down to Hastings, scz, but I've got a local German car meet I'm going to this Sunday so wont be able to make it. Maybe next time though. Hope this crappy weather clears up by tomorrow.

Anyway, first things first. I have to get the central locking fixed. It has the standard alarm system, but the fob is not working (or at least the system in the car is not picking it up).

Secondly, I'm thinking about changing the steering wheel and have a choice of these three. All are pretty decent and genuine Porsche (hence them being around £250!!) Which one do you guys like best ??

Strange links Clint, any way:-

Option one - 968 CS. Very nice, wish I'd got this one. It is a Porsche wheel.

Option two - like what I've got. I'm not convinced it is a genuine Porsche wheel and I'm not keen on the way the leather on the rim laps over the leather on the spokes - Option one seems much nicer in construction.

Option three - Again, I'm not sure on its heritage though it looks nicely made.

I'd go for option one. If you want option two I could sell you mine and then I could get option one [;)]

If you do a long term search on wheels it will pull up a previous thread.

I like option two. Its the one I have and I think the enamel crest is much nicer than an embossed one. Unlike John I am very happy with the lapping on my rim [;)]

I think if you look a bit harder, you should get one of these (whichever one you choose) for around the £200 mark. The last one looks like a Porsche Tequipment one, but without the white / pearlescant stripe on the bottom spoke, so not sure if genuine.

My choice would be one or two, but lets face it, any of the three will be nicer than the standard thin item (uncomfy, and dates the interior soooo much).

Weird links indeed [&:] although the pictures seem to be from ESS (?)

Have a look at Design911 ~ go to "Interior Accessories" then "Steering Wheels". Prices seem pretty good (?)

I'm rather interested in the R1 Race wheel they have (which I think is made by richbrook?). Comes with Porsche Crest centre cap for only £99 +VAT, and it's the "correct" 350mm diameter. £35 for a (Momo) boss kit and Robert is your mothers brother....

Anyone any experience of richbrook wheels?

I've got Richbrook window winders and they seem OK.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]It's more than possible to get a good wheel for £100. That's about what my Momo cost and while it's a track slag one they sell more road style wheels for the same money.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]All that said I like the lozenge. I only replaced mine for a dish and suede rim.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Yeah, I like the second one the best too. Thanks for the link to that site, mik_ok, lots cheaper on there!!

Also, something I desperately need to purchase, is a tailored car cover for it. Its kept on the driveway, but it gets covered in pine needles and sap from the overhanging trees we have. Can anyone reccommend a good place to get a good quality outdoor cover thats made specifically for the 944 ??

These are very good.
They are about £300 in the UK but the link below will post them to you from the States and they are nearly half the price after the dreaded import duty and post.

The weathershield is really really good.

Just do a search on the site using your specific car, pick colour, job done.
