Porsche 944 Sills

So much for Porsche being out there and championing the "Porsche Classic" thing to sell more cars yet the owners who run the classics keep getting screwed with the price they are charging for parts, I have owned a 944 of some flavour for 20 years now and purchased many parts near enough al the parts prices have doubled or trebled over the years from OPC, about time Porsche started helping out the classic owners with spares prices methinks.

thanks all , the aftermarket sills at

https://www.classiccarpartsandpanels.co.uk/shop/porsche-944-sill/

fitted like a dream. Just got the car back today and delighted with the repair.

Got the sill fitted with a bit of extra rot on the floorpan around the jackmount and front wing fixed, sealed and stonechipped for 600 pounds by http://www.cosmeticcarrepair.ie/ in Belfast N.Ireland. For an extra 100 pounds they fitted 2 rear shocks and a window actuator I'd had on the shelf for a while

Great news, and a great price too.

Just had a mail back from Laura from the company, and the sills (outer repair panels listed above) fit the early (s1) late (s2) and cabriolet.

Laura is very helpful, I had quick replies from her for my purchase, mine (lower wing section) should be ready by end of next week.....hope so I'm getting withdrawl symptoms...:)

I think it's moving forward. Porsche now have a "request a part" option on their classics website, and to be fair they do still support a lot of the parts despite the car's age. A lot of other manufacturers don't. In a way high prices are not a bad thing? If there's demand, and OEM is expensive, then there's an incentive for people to offer an alternative. Again, being fair to Porsche, you can buy a complete sill section, original spec and quality, for about £200. These outer-only versions sound like the best out there by a long way, but are still only an outer cover for £100. The extra money for the correct, original, more complete sill part from Porsche isn't a massive overpricing when you factor in the 20-plus years they will last even uncared for! [:)]

Just an update to say Laura emailed me today to say the panel was finished and had been posted directly to my bodyshop......hopefully it will get there quickly and the car will be all good again......I have to say I'm very impressed with the turnaround and the communication...now as long as the panel is good then all will be great. As promised I'll report back how things go.

cheers

Pete

Sorry Paul, I really don't support you on this. Trying to claim that rip-off prices from Porsche for parts for their older cars is not a bad thing because it encourages competition is up there with Gordon Brown trying to persuade us that high tax on petrol is a good thing as it evens out underlying price variations related to the cost of crude oil. Profiteering is profiteering and high parts prices are what drive older cars off the road, and Porsche should know better. At least the parts counter guy at my local OPC has the decency to look embarassed when he quotes me prices for things and will suggest other sources for things when the prices are simply stupid.

Oli.
