Porsche 968 Turbo RS

Thom.
I think that there were far more parts on the car that were specific to the Turbo S, than you think...[;)][;)]

I'm not convinced in the engine bay that there were. My understanding has always been that it made the maximum power it was allowed to for whatever class they built it to race in so easily that they didn't do a lot of mechanical engine development beyond it being a 944T with a 3.0 bottom end.

The photo of the engine certainly looks like it has more in common with a 944T than a lot of the 944Ts on here do these days.

Well I have researched on these for years and all the info I could collect, even from an owner in the know, confirmed there are not many specific parts, at least not many enough to justifiy the exclusivity factor reflected in selling prices
Obviously I do not own one and I have never stripped one apart so I cannot know for sure, yet the sort of mystique around these remains just that - a mystique.

Ha ha ha, so true :ROFLMAO:

I can't for the life of me spot the difference that Thom mentions on the first runner of the intake manifold [&:] (I blame my parents tiny 14" screen as I have to scroll around to see the whole pic)

Just like the 968 ClubSport then.

Well, except the turbo S has some torque - 368 lbs/ft @ 3k rpm is a lot of fun, even when experienced only from the passenger's seat [:)]

Interesting, - I suspect the cars were close to a 3.0L 951 as suggested by others too. After all Porsche were in their worst year financially when this project was developed so they would have stuck to economical proven components, it has an AFM too.

Wibble - they are still being made[8|]....improved versions too.

Was trying to work out if the I/C is standard. It looks pretty close to std with the restrictive end tank/s, but the text talks about "a large intercooler.." probably more of that mystique again??

No one I know of markets an off the shef variable vane for the 944T, but SimonP on this forum has experience of variable vane turbines and supplied the hybrid ball race version that is in my car. Drop him an email - hide your wallet first [;)][:D]
