Porsche Boss Confirms 395bhp Flat-4 for Cayman

ORIGINAL: Motorhead Interesting to note that if this is indeed the turbo flat-4, Porsche have chosen to run it in a 911 rather than a Cayman. I would guess that it's easier to incorporate an air-to-air intercooler package in the 911 chassis - using an arrangement similar to that used in the 911 Turbo - than it is to squeeze the package into the mid-engined Cayman. On the subject of packaging an air-intercooled turbo flat-4 for the Cayman/Boxster, I wonder if Porsche have catered for this in the 981 chassis so that it becomes available in the Gen2 981; or perhaps we'll have to wait until the 982(?) arrives. The over-engine deck on the 981 does look to be a little bit higher than on my 987 though, so perhaps there's more room above the engine; but who knows what they'd manage to squeeze in there? Incidentally, US-based TPC Racing market a turbo kit for the Cayman/Boxster with an option for a liquid-to-air intercooler, so it will be interesting to see how Porsche approach the installation with a slightly more compact flat-4 engine.
