Porsche Extended Warranty - is it worth it?

ORIGINAL: passion

So I took out the extended warranty after RMS failure... Thinking it might help if there were any other problems. (yes, I was feeling "flush" at the time...)

Guess what, the RMS "secondary" seal then fails. So phew! - warranty to the rescue...

I think that having a friendly dealer and Service Dept helps in these claims.
(I know all OPCs should be fair and equitable but..)

Yes but the extended warranty is just about the same cost as an OPC RMS replacement. [&:]

I had a wheel bearing replaced under the initial 2yr warranty. So how does that work then - doesn't it go round for the first 2 years?

Beats me.
Some have had failed wheel bearings replaced under the extended warranty - some haven't. As I said earlier, it's all hit and miss and lacks consistency.

Age apparently is factored in too - great play by Porsche GB on the fact that car had reached the ripe old age of 5. I couldn't get them to see that regardless of age I wouldn't expect a bearing to fail at 25k miles.
Perhaps they just start crumbling at 4yr and 11 months?

Suppose I should have just told the OPC to replace the remaining 3 as a precautionary measure...by Porsche's reasoning they're not going to go the distance!

I had wheel bearing replaced after 19000 miles in year 3 after declining to take extended warranty - but cost of replacement (at good independent ! ) was less than a year's cost of warranty !
I didnt take extended warranty when OPC told me that the clutch (which had already been replaced under warranty in year 2) was not covered.
As a lawyer, I can say that the small print of the porsche warranty would certainly win no prizes for draftmanship !
