Porsche Panamera

I have come home from work to find a small packet from Porsche.

On opening, I found a rather nice colour brochure for the new Panamera, along with a USB pen drive in the shape of the Panamera key.

Porsche is spending a lot on these USB pens (I recieved another a few weeks back for the new 997).

I must say I am a bit gutted that I had recently brought a USB for a friend for Christmas (I am a bit of a scin flint and could have given him one of the 'free ones').

Never mind.

But does anyone know when the Panamera is going to get its on thread on this site?

There will be a Panamera Register and forum page as soon as there's a demand. All we need is an enthusiastic Panamera owner, prospective will do. It's all about having enough demand for a Register, and someone who is prepared to give up the time to run it. [:)]

What does one have to do and generally how much time does it take?

I would be interested in starting a register, although I may end up just posting things to myself!

Hi Dillon,

First call is to Barry, he's the Register Director and is ultimately responsible for any new Register.

To be honest it's as much of a commitment as you want. I've got a very active Register in the 944 crowd, but there's over a 1000 of them to keep in line. I'd guess that the Panamera will be more like the Cayenne, in that there's a lot of new owners but fewer enthusiasts.

First thing to consider is that there's a clause that limits Register officials to those who own the model in question. [&:]

I was thinking the very same thoughts myself about a page for the new model..

I think it had to be launched and an owner to moderate it, if I think back to the Cayman...

However, I do think that the club should have a forum area if there is the interest (and Dillon to run it [;)]) not least as a rescource to other potential owners...

Interesting this thread. A Register for a car yet to be produced.

No doubt there will be a shout for a group purchase of something, a moan about the Porsche warranty and the Satnav coupled with queries about the iPod connectors, Bluetooth and phone connections. And all of this before the vehicle hits the road?

Sorry for the sarcasm, I just found the idea of a Register for a non-existent car rather amusing.

I didn't realise you were being sarcastic! I'd suggest that the first thread will be on residuals.....[8|]

Gary's right, we will need the car to be in production before it gets a Register, and a Register page here. As always, if there's a demand we could have one anyway - not all the registers have a forum page, and some are as dead as the proverbial dodo anyway so I don't see any problem with a lively Panamera page.

I place a 'letter of intent' for the panamera three years ago and as such have been watching the progress of the car for all of that time.

Having been a 'owner' of a 911 for three years but a Porsche enthusiast for as long as I can remember (my Mum thinks I said the word 'Porsche' before I said 'Mama') I think that as it is now 'official' that this car is coming, there shouldnt be anything wrong about it having its own thread.

Due to the UK economy being pretty crap and the fact that all in all likelyhood, next year being the same but worse, only time will tell on if I can pursuade my wife to allow me to buy the car. But I live in hope!

With the Panamera being a full four seater and being a family man, with children of 5 and 7 years old, it is only a matter of time before I will have to buy a bigger car regardless.

I think the Panamera will appeal to drivers and Porsche enthusiast alike.

Therefore, I will be happy to talk about it if there is anyone who shares this!

If not, I can still talk about anything Porsche (as I cant at home as it drives my wife crazy!).

Mine are 7 and 10 and are still happy to squeeze into the 996 so I reckon you've got a good couple of years yet!

Yet its confirmed, being advertised and widely talked about.. [;)] let alone brochures being sent out to customers...

It would be a shame if as a Porsche club UK we couldn't be ahead of the game for potential Panamera owners to have a place to talk and the UK information be condensed for viewing..
You never know, we might even encourage people to join the club? - [&:]

nah! your right its a silly idea, theres plenty of other places for potential owners to go.. ( and Julian, thats real sarcasm[;)] )

No, it's ridiculous that we have to wait for a register to exist - and that can only happen once an owner has bought a car...[]
Meanwhile where do those with orders in post?

That's crazy. [&:]

I'm opening a new forum area now. I'll moderate it until we have an RS.

Just a thought. Has anyone spoken to the Register Director about the Panamera Register?

It's a no-brainer that it will happen, it's just down to who wants to start it and when. The Club would no doubt set it up tomorrow. The rule is that a Register must have a Register Secretary who owns the car, so that's a stickt point. Would a "letter of intent" count? I guess that it'd have to in this case.

So, all you lucky people with a Panamera on order, who's going to step forward to take on the newest Register? [:)]

Well done Mark

Glad to see a bit of foresight being used.
Hopefully the information posted recently can all be moved to this area too.

PS I'm not buying one- yet

Well that is a first.

I have had an idea that someone has thought is a good idea!

Thanks for setting it up so quickly.

Now lets hope that we can have some debate on this new Porsche in a new sector of the marketplace.

A supercar with four doors.

Most of you will know what the Italians call four door - 'Quattroporte'

Now the Germans have there own term 'Panamera' - How cool is that!

For what it's worth, I think the pictures promise a really great looking car when we finally see it in the flesh. Its unusual in having a hatchback for this type of car, which will make it quite practical for a four door. Probably end up a Marmite car, like the Cayenne, but as I've had two of those I probably fall in the 'love it' category by default.

I had one member apply to be the Panamera Register Secretary when I was Register Director and the rules were then and probably still are that the Register Secretary must own a car for which the Register is named ie a Panamera. If anyone is interested they should make contact with Barry Smith who will decide who the RS will be. As to having a site on the forum for a car that does not exist Mark seems to have dealt with that. Happy Christmas everyone.

Well I've recieved the Panamera promotion pack - including the nice key / car shaped USB stick. Not sure yet about it, despite having a 'letter of intent' in for one.
I have booked flights for the Geneva motorshow in March, so hopefully will see it in the 'flesh' then.
Merry Xmas to one and all!
Graham
