Porsche Panamera

Sorry but I do not think you can say in the same sentence "Panamera" and "great looking car" I have just seen the pictures in the Porsche Post. I will be going to Geneva Motor Show, if I am wrong I will say so but I doubt it. It reminds me of some Korean offerings some years back, Porsche designers have a problem of late with complete new cars, may be they will be able to use some guys fom the the Audi Design Department to get something different and exciting.

But of course the badge will sell them, reminds me of the mid 80's the "must" was to have was a BMW badge on the drive, and their cars were not that good then (I only know too well). Roll on the diesel Panamera, the dealers will love them as well as the 20 pages of extras..... thse are changing times.

Design by Porsche, built by Volkswagen and assembled by ... who knows.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I agree that this car is a little different to what we might expect form Porsche ........ its a radical design for an upmarket 4 door car.... and I think it looks fabulous too!
I expect that when the 356 came out of Gmund in 1948 there were people around who thought the same as you do now. But, as they say, that is all history now!

Yeah alright! Thats a laugh. I like the R8 - that is - apart from that dam vertical stripe behind the windows. The rest of the Audi range looks like Leggo Land! IMHO

Absolutely I agree 100% beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I did not expect anything different from the Porsche design team, had to keep the rear "911" slope. It is not a radical design on the contrary, a bit boring. If it did not have a Porsche badge, say for instance Renault or Peugeot, it would have been branded as boring, bland, massive in a word a tank. Of late Mercedes make more interesting "upmarket" 4 door cars.

I have a Lego brick in my hand and I can't see an Audi, may be the original Quattro from 1985 was a bit like a Lego brick, but then again Lego has always been one of the favourite toys. As far as the R8 is concerned, I have driven one on a circuit in France and believe me it is a very good car indeed worth a try, the sort of car that Porsche should have made (but too frightened to). I drove it back to back with the AM V8 and the GT3. The Aston is suprisingly good on track, the GT3 a great car for the track with an excellent gearbox, my choice the R8 anytime, would look good next to my 911 (3.2 1989).

I have to say I'm warming to the Panamera, it looks better each time I see it. In the nicest possible way, I hope it enjoys a similar residual performance to the Cayenne, and I could see myself owning one one day!

The hatchback is unique in class, and makes it so much more versatile than a normal saloon.

The Audi R8 and AMV8 are great cars I'm sure, but the 2 seat only configuration rule them out for anyone with family needs, in a way that a 911 does not.

The 911 is hardly a car for family needs, how do you fit 2 people around 1.80 m tall.

Back in 1984, in fact exactly 25 years ago, I had to chose a car for myself. The field was narrowed to 2 cars: the 911 coupe and Audi Quattro (turbo coupe - wide arches). As much as I always wanted a 911 I had to go for the Quattro even tough my children were at the time 5 and 8 years old. Never regretted the choice this Quattro, one of the gretatest cars around.

In 1986 I found the answer to the problem of choosing: kept the Quattro as a daily car and bought a 911 SC for the week end.

Panamera: the front is a bit 911 XXL like the Golf Plus, the back is "heavy" more like an estate, very useful to go to the rubbish dump.

I suppose the next car from Porsche will be a white van, should sell, Volkwagen as all the bits.
