Porsche Warranty Any ideas

Note that not all PCs carry out the 111-point check FOC with a service and MOT.

Despite my protestations at the time that most of the checks should be included in the (major) service, they only gave me a "discounted" price for the check, stating that this was required to cover (unspecified) additional labour costs.

Jeff,

The 111 points include items such as

Check function and condition of

floor mats and carpet, roof lining, glove box, ash tray, cup holders....so there are additional items which take time to check. [:D]

We don't even need to ask at our PC. They just don't charge for it if it coincides with a service [:)]

A 111 check shows up jacky **** :) and is a noddy check up and I would say a MOT checks more than a OPC 111 check !

I have a 111 check sheet it's very minor checks.

history of service and car

fluids etc

lights and switches

exterior, hinges and dents, oil leaks etc

battery make !!

Tyre make !!!

pads 50% or less

road test to inc testing ABS and the likes.

NO compression test or bore scope to engine, so what is one paying for ?

I picked up my Cayman R with cheap China made rear pads in it !!! from my OPC, so much for a 111 check !

they are more interested if you have a non OEM battery or non N spec tyres ! or part worns disks and pads

this allows then a >£2k bill to have new disks, pads, tyres and battery ! and is very common at service time !

a 111 OPC check is not a bill of clean heath and as the warranty only really covers engine and gear box and a 111 check does NOT check the engine, the whole things a farce and just an exercise to allow a warranty over all.

I was once renewing my warranty on my 987.1 and getting the MOT done at the same time, the OPC said fine passed MOT but fails our inspection for the warranty in that the steering rod joint is worn and will cost £60 plus a full alignment at £600! So I said forget the warranty as I don't think it sensible to pay for a warranty when the car is proven safe by your MOT inspection and yet you say it is not.... They quickly said as I was about to buy two years of warranty that if I bought the warranty and paid for the part they would pay for the alignment and fitting. When in for a service at a later date they said the other joint was worn and so I had that done elsewhere and had the alignment done, the before readings showed it was out and from the readings I would say that it had just been put within limits probably not aligned at all, from other things I have read, I think all of the cars need to be checked even when new as the factory set up is probably just a quick basic setting, nothing is bedded in nor run before point of sale so settings will drift.

At one time we didn't have to pay for the checks but now it is an excuse to charge us. Most times the cars go into he OPC workshops they do a health check ( looking for work ) which is taken into the labour rate.

Ha! Yes Ralph, and the cynic in me reckons that if they could charge you to make sure that the wheels are circular then they would.

Well, for those of us that want the warranty it's a necessary evil, I suppose, presumably required by the underwriter rather than the PC. They do check for the dreaded over revs though! It does also cover the electrics as well as the engine and gear box. On balance I have still had more back from the warranty than I've paid out. [;)]

Surely a worn track rod end would be an MOT failure? If it passed the MOT then it most certainly have passed a warranty check. Very odd indeed.

Jeff

I've just checked my car, the wheels are all round so that's OK but the tyres look slightly flat at the bottom - should I be worried? [;)]
