POST THE CARS YOU HAVE OWNED HERE .The twisty road that leads to a 997

Since 1993 and not necessarily in order:

1985 Mini 1000 (25th Anniversary in Silver)
1986 XR2 - Freddie, the boy king of hot hatches. Still driving around Guildford.
1991 Metro GTI - needed 1 litre of oil per 500 miles. Used to get a free cup of tea from the garage that did it.
1995 Mini Cooper
2000 Citroen Saxo VTR
1996 Escort Cabrio (wifes when we met)
1991 Lotus Elan SE - bought in 2001 with 12,000 on the clock - time warp
1998 Lotus Elise S1 - still got "the old boy" - 62,000 now on the clock and it still squeaks like when it was only 2 years old.
2000 Lotus 340R - hard work but still great.
1983 Lotus Sunbeam - ongoing project with father in law
2000 Subaru Impreza P1 - brilliant
2003 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO7 FQ300
2003 Subaru Impreza STI PPP
1998 Porsche 996 C2
2004 Porsche 997 C2S - my favourite.

T 1979 Talbot Horizon 1300 GLS (1985-87) "" utterly diabolical [:'(]
W 1981 Golf mk1 1500 GL (1987-88) "" so much better after Talbot, that I bought 5 more
Y 1983 Golf mk1 1500 GX (1988-90) "" great little car, one of my favourites [:)]
C 1985 Golf mk2 1600 CL (1990-91) "" overweight, underpowered, stodgy, disappointing. [:'(]
E 1988 Golf mk2 GTI 8v (1991-93) "" fabulous, loved it. [:)]
G 1990 Golf mk2 GTI 8v Convertible (1993-4) "" disappointing, understeering nightmare. [:'(]
J 1992 Golf mk2 GTI 8v (1994) "" rogue insurance rebuild, sold back to trade for massive loss.[]
J 1991 Corrado G60 (1994-95) "" surprisingly good, no trouble from supercharger
K 1993 Corrado VR6 (1995-97) "" sublime car, massively under-rated. Still miss it. [:)]
J 1991 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 (1997-1999) "" first Porsche, real event to drive, but massively expensive to run and handling didn't instil confidence.
W 2000 Porsche Boxster S (2000-2005) "" another star car, just so good at everything. [:)]
55 2005 Porsche Cayman S (2005+) "" dynamically better than Boxster, but is it such a good all rounder?"¦

Sorry, no 997 yet, but I'm working on it!

Do you know, I'd never really thought about this before, so here goes with rose tinted goggles firmly on!!

Date on left is yr of manufacture as I recall........

1974 Ford Escort GLS - in roman purple!! Hey man....!![&:]
1979 Cortina GLS in white (couldn't afford a Crapi)[8D]
1980 Peugeot 305GRD - surprisingly comfy
1983 Vauxhall Cavalier SRi (excellent car in it's day and with great recaro seats)
1985 Ford XR3i in Blue - went like stink (comparatively speaking of course)[;)]
1986 Opel Kadett GTE (plus Honda MTX 200 Bike/ Kawasaki GPZ 550)
1990 Renault 5 GT turbo - Flimsy but went like a rocket once turbo cut in - weighed about the same as a packet of walkers crisps though!
1987 Volkswagen GTi 16v MK2 3 dr- brilliant, brilliant - one of the best cars I've ever owned![:)]
1985 Porsche 944 2.5 (plus Honda VFR750 and Goldwing Aspencade 1200)[:)]
1988 Alfa Romeo 75 3.0 Cloverleaf (seemingly in kit form, but inspired engine and handling when it worked [])- plus Mk2 Honda VFR with Sebring race system.
1986 Montego 2.0L (seemed like a good idea at the time but wasn't! Doh!!)[:-]
1987 Suzuki Santana 1300 - handled like a pig on a pogo stick and had all the wet weather capability of a partially erected tent at 60mph (plus BMW K100 RS)[:'(]
1986 BMW 323i -great car [:)]
1992 BMW 520i Auto SE - lovely build, but gutless (Harley Davidson 1340 Heritage Softail, equally gutless but good fun)
1990 Mercedes Cosworth 2.5 16v - fast, well made but dog leg gearbox did not endear along with lack of torque.
1980 Porsche 911 SC Sport- (black, looked evil, went well, smelt plain weird inside - mixture of old engine oil, strange plasticy niff, magic tree pong and something organic I know not what)[&:]
1993 BMW 525i auto SE - very well made, handled well and went OK (plus BMW K1 which I was nearly killed on after a 3.5 tonne lorry hit me - miraculaous escape with torn leather jacket, concussion and brsuising and an Arai helmet worn down to the inner fabric! Thanks someone 'upstairs'!)[8|]
2001 Boxster 986S - brilliant fun
2005 Boxster 987S - Even more brilliant fun
2005 997S - Sublime and darn near bike quick![:)]

Blimey, now I've written it all down, what a list!! No wonder I'm turning grey[:D]

'98 Porsche 911 Carrera 2
03 Porsche 911 Turbo

I have also run an Escort Twin Cam, Escort RS, Escort RS1800, Opel Ascona 400, Opel Manta 400, Lancia Delta 4, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 and Evo 7 in motorsport.

Gosh, I deserve a motor industry medal for the money I must have spent over the years!

Morris Marina (hand me down)

Ford Capri 1.6 GL Auto (0-60 in 31 seconds)

Aston Martin DBS6 (a crazy 21 year old who fell for David Browns not so finest - couldnt afford a DB6)

VW Golf GTI Mk1 1.6 (From Watford to Southend at an average speed of 100 - when the M25 wasn't so populated)

VW Golf GTI Mk2 1.8 16V (went to live abroad with this one whilst serving a 3 year ban..)

Audi 80 Coupe S2 (ÂŁ100 for a replacement rubber hose & ÂŁ10K for a new gearbox saw me running from Audi - never to return)

BMW M3 Conv

BMW Z8 ( I fell in love with her, tuff to say goodbye)

997 C4S (all those wasted years driving driving other cars..)

Ok, I'll go by year of acquisition, and I will accept that I may not have the years 100% right!
1989 Ford Capri 1.6L 1982 X-plate. Gold with 2.8i pepperpot alloys - looked great, but broke down every other day.
1990 Rover 216 Vitesse 1985 B-plate. Silver, fab car but started to rust badly
1992 Ford Capri 2.0GL S-plate. Cost ÂŁ200 (sold Rover to pay for holiday and needed wheels) - absolute rust bucket, no 2nd gear and steering was "vague" to say the least!
1992 Renault 5 GT-Turbo - D plate, air cooled. Absolutely fantastic fun, but v. unreliable and so expensive to repair. Stolen in Manchester.
1993 - 1995 - shared a Vauxhall Astra 1.3L D-plate (I think!) with my then girlfriend, dreadful car but served a purpose
1995 - 1997 - Borrowed a Rover 820i F-plate. Actually quite liked it! Very comfortable.
1997 - 1999 - Lotus Elan SE J-plate. Absolutely superb!!! Loved it. Until the 997S, the best car I've owned for pure pleasure without a doubt.
1999 - Saab 900 convertible 2.5 v6 SE N-plate I think- looked good, comfortable, but a bit dull (only had it 6 months, least time I'd owned a car since the S plate Capri!)
2000 - 2002 BMW Z3 2.8i W plate - 1st brand new car, I liked it although I know a lot of pundits pan it. Quite powerful, low, rear wheel drive, I though it was fun. Only real criticism was that it was quite uncomfortable on long drives, but that was the seats more than the ride. Personal import, paid ÂŁ10k less than UK list, had it for 2 yrs and lost ÂŁ300. Result!!
2002 - 2005 BMW 330ci convertible sport - the best all rounder I've owned. Great balance, build quality, engine, looks, practicality. Had everything. My mother-in-law bought it off me, and even now, I have a lump in my throat when I see it.
2005 Porsche 997S - absolutely fabulous, goes without saying. I'm not particularly well off, just wanted to indulge while I can i.e. when kids come along, it'll be an X5 or something similar on the drive. Having said that, I've had a reservation on a new M3 (the 4 litre V8) for 18 months, for delivery next year. Not sure whether to take it or not! I am being sucked in to the whole Porsche marque though.........the heritage etc.. The only thing that turns me off is that it's slowly being turned in to a mass brand - the exclusivity is being diluted. On the other hand, if I earn a promotion, maybe I'll have a Panamera(?) in 2008.
