Power retrictions in the N/A cars

ORIGINAL: zan

The reason you dont get the extra 10-15bhp on a Scivision kit is that the cable adaptor only adjust the MAF signal to suit the DME requirements. You get the extra 10-15 by tuning the ignition , adjusting the fueling to suit and using the best ron fuel you can get.

We did this (off the shelf chip that was specified for the Maf and then a rolling road remap) but still didn't find the 10-15bhp that some people say is possible to find with the Maf. I see the benefit of it that it reacts much quicker than the barn door and is slightly less restrictive to the air flow, but in my experience to say you'll get a big or worthwhile gain in bhp is misleading. However I'd love to see someone elses same day dyno results that prove me wrong.

Pete: does your MAF kit come with a box of tricks too? If so then perhaps a MAP sensor replacing the meter and much of the inlet tract will see a better result? Im a big fan of MAP, if you didnt know...

Sorry to hijack a non turbo tuning thread but would folk think that fitting the Vitesse MAF to my turbo'd car I will indeed see a power hike as well as an increase in responsiveness ? Need to get some idea if only to inform the insurance company !

Hi Jon, I would say yes you will see a power increase even if you keep the boost pressure the same. When I fitted mine I had to immediately turn down my boost controller as the less restrictive MAF was letting more air through than the flap of the AFM. Even at the same boost level the car was noticeably quicker and more responsive

With regards to MAP (and yes Im surprised to be doing this), but Id have a look at Promax Motorsports site.

Excellent, not sure how much extra bhp I should tell the insurers its likely to put out 10 ? 20 ?

I think its not easy to get a 10- 15 boost on hp by off the shelf chip cos every car if different and chip designers will often come to a lower compromised setting. I am pretty sure you will get a fatter torque curve at most rpm ranges nevertheless? One thing I notice is that the car will be smoother & less jerky.

I will get a dyno done & post results in couple weeks.[:)]. I will moniter the fuel consumption as well as I have noticed the over-richment on acceleration is moderated and less fuel smell creeps into the cabin.
