Power & Torque for a 3.8 RSR

Paul,

Besides the fabled Japanese championship (I only read this in Frere's book) in which championships/category did the 993 RSR compete?

Why did the factory produced these 993 RSRs when they already had the 993 GT2 and the 993 CUP?

Cheers,

Paul Frere books are good ,but you do get the odd wrong info which is probably down to the typos and proof readers etc
They did make 993 rsr for sure,so far i have come up with 22 cars,2 are in the uk that i know of.
The engine case and most of the bottom end is 993 rather than 964,even though the case numbers are still 964.

Hi Phil
The rsr run in the the gt3 class in the usa and lemans, also australia,hongkong/japan, which was very short lived and not much race history attached to these cars as the 996gt3r came out with in 6 months and out classed the 993 sadly! Some americans named the 993 a gt3rsr,which got very confusing for most people.
Freisinger has one of the cars for sale that run at the petit lemans and was a class winner, hence the price.A good investment at the right price. http://www.freisinger-motorsport.de/porsche/uk/Porsche_Cars_for_sale/50.html
Hows the 964rsr going,we must get them all out together some time, quite a nice collection now in the uk.
I think there is now 7 x 964rsr and 2 x 993rsr.

Thanks Paul, I did not know this. I had always assumed that aside from the Japanese championship the 993 RSRs were modified 993 cups-freisinger also sold a few of these modified CUPs, one of them to a friend.

You and Neil should come to Spa with us for the next PCF Days. Three 964 RSRs last year!

Did you drive the 993 and 964 RSRs on the track? How do they compare?

Hi guys,

Am I right in saying that Porshce N.America did a conversion on a number of Cup cars to RSR spec for US market ? These weren't retroactive, i.e. driven out as Cups and then returned at a later date to go to RSR spec, more like left the showroom converted to RSR.

If this is true, does the 22 production number you mention Paul include the PNA cars or are they not deemed "proper" RSR for not leaving the factory as such - I would imagine not.

Be great to do an RSR get together. Didn't realise there were so many 964 RSR's in UK.....common as the proverbial [;)]

Interesting article about the 964 RSR on Rennlist:

i know where there are 2 white ones side by side ! Nananana!

There is not much between both cars,if honest i think the 964 felt a little more planted on intial turn in and mid corner, just down to the 993 rear multi link suspension, once the 993 is settled it had better traction out of the corners.
993 felt faster just becasue it had more bhp and torque,be interesting to drive a even powered car.
The 993 is the same as the gt2 on all its running gear, just missing the turbos. And everything is uniball mounted along with the solid and inclined rear subframe.
Ben those 964rsr are every where[;)],great cars,nearly as nice as a 993[:D]
The only proper rsr are the ones that left the factory,as you know from daytona that car was a converted cup car by Porsche North america.Still had its cup engine and box type numbers.Good car but not the real deal!
The unused white 993 rsr in the USA sold .
May be we should all come to spa .

That was exactly the car I was thinking about Paul, but couldn't remember whether PNA did a run on them or if it was a one off. Besides, if it had cup numbers on motor and box then it could never be regarded as RSR.
The one and only RHD Aussie 964RSR has changed hands....gone back to one of the original owners I believe.

Interesting to read differences between 993 and 964 RSR.

Not booking any other hols until know dates of PCF 2009.

Good weekend all.

I will see if i can make spa,it depends on race dates, might try and get primo amd paul mac along with there rsr also.
Ben the only rhd 964 rsr belonged to a person who also owned my 993rsr and a very nice rhd GT2,sadly he died last xmas and the estate has been sorted..hE used to work for porsche motorsport asia.
The rhd rsr won the austalian Gt champs in 93/94,good car but heavy money with the rhd premium etc
I see the 964 spa 24hr winning car is also for sale from NZ,again top money.
Melv i dont mind getting very ,very drunk on good belguim beer, and driving the next day.I suppose i would have to put up with des sense of humour!

I'll start the pit box list then! Who is coming?

The more the merrier and cheaper. I'll organise support from Speedservice at our pits as the RSRs are always breaking down!

'Looks as if you have a rookie in your midst.

I'm pretty confident on those dates --- and Des has sorted the PCGB endorsement of the PCF event making insurance much easier ??

Des, can you make sure (ask) PCGB to include the day in their 2009 list of PCGB endorsed events ??

Done -just spoke to and e-mailed Chris Clark -there will be a paragraph in January PP along the lines of last years.
