PPF Self Install...?

Shop around. PPF installation is all about having a clean dist free environment. Yes you can buy precut pieces from the likes of Expel but I'd rather leave it to the pros.

Not something you can do on your driveway really.

Hi,
Has anyone tried (successfully) to self fit ppf ? If so what did you use...

Local companies in Herts want about twice the cost of having the front PU painted...

There are a few videos around of people installing it themselves, some apparently successfully. Not something I would attempt. Have enough trouble with kitchen clingfilm :ROFLMAO:.

 
I am also possibly looking at putting some PPF on the rear wings, in front of the wheels similar to that on 911s and even my Macan, I wonder if I could just buy a sheet of 3M PPF and cut out from my own template and just apply it. Such a small area shouldn't be that difficult to apply should it?

 
I did a DIY job on my 991 TTS, applying it to front end, bonnet, side and rear sills.

It's trickier job than it looks and I had to have several trial runs before I was satisfied. In the end, I thought I'd made a reasonable fist of it, but it's very difficult keeping dirt and fibres out of the work. You really do need a sterile location to be successful.

Good luck trying to source Expel, I had no luck at all obtaining their high end films, but I had a friend in the business and was able to purchase a similar product - it's surprisingly expensive BTW!

It’s a lot harder than the pros make it look IMO

ive actually put xpel track tape over xpel PPF for some heavy track sessions and realised that all the flat surfaces on a porsche actually have subtle curves - it was a bit of A mess but did the job for a few days

temperature is also key it can’t be worked and stretched if too cold

 
Thanks. I did think of just doing key areas for the next road trip…but will follow the advice given and leave it to the professionals.
