Price crash

Three thoughts:

1. This Forum is still quite small, so you can't expect a big response.

2. There probably aren't all that many 996s for sale that meet your specific criteria.

3. Judging from this and other threads, many 996 owners who may have considered 997s (or other performance cars), may have now decided to keep and enjoy their 996s.
 

Prices are definatly heading south... interesting to see that the 996 turbo has lost so much money. You can pick one up for £45k now with 60k on the clock FSH. Shocking! I nearly traded in for one but now when I look at them they do seem a bit dated... sorry just my impression. When the new 997 Turbo comes out I am sure the prices will fall further. Sorry again... [FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]Right now I am flirting with the idea of getting a Ferrari 360. Prices start at £51k for a LHD model and £62k for RHD. Even with the new F430 the 360 prices has not gone down as much... probably due to the waiting list. Or... how about a Lamborgini Gallardo 2003 plate LHD for £75k!!!!!!!! [:-][FONT=verdana,geneva"]
[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]A year old 997 LHD is £52k!!!! not bad... It would be better if the exchange rate was what it was 3 years ago i.e. 1.65 euro to the pound. If exchange rates change in that way I am sure that it would make a LHD an interesting prospect. (Just out of curiousity would it be too expensive to convert a LHD 997 to RHD? Seeing how car production is made more simplier to reduce production costs i,e, many parts applicable for many different versions it shouldnt be that expensive). Any opinions????[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
 
P.S> I wouldnt be surprised if a tuning company brings out a £15grand tuning package (i.e supercharger et al) for the Cayman to have the same performance as a 997 turbo. Better chassis..... better engine positioning.... what more could u want... [8|][FONT=verdana,geneva"]
 
Watch prices this month. What with the new registration, I expect to see a significant increase in the number of 996's entering the market. When that happens, you can rely on the supply v's demand price pressure.
Maybe the fact that I had so few responses will actually have worked in my favour after all.
 
Been very interested in the thread as I have been contemplating jumping from my 993 C4 to a 996 cab. A total change of direction, but the one thing holding me back is the apparent freefall in 996 values. This has left me with a dilemna of holding on to the 993 or taking the plunge, in the knowledge that if I had held onto the 993 the financial loss would be much less[&:]

Anybody fancy a swap[:)]?
 
Depreciation is the main cost with almost any relatively new car. If you want a new, or newish, car then you have to accept the inevitable. Despite this thread, 996s are no worse than any other prestige car and, in fact, better than many. If you really want a 996 go for it. Although, IMO, coupe is better than the cab.

If you can read this bit about "Power Crazed Germans" you will see that someone's lost £70k on a Merc CL600 in 3 years!! Makes Porsche ownership seem eminently sensible.....

Can't see myself in a coupe as I would be comparing it against the 993 and I don't want to start yearning to go back, hence the reason for a cab.

Get the Cab!!! They are excellent and certainly the best Porsche I have ever owned or driven. Nothing to beat it!! You won't be disappointed or have any regrets.
