Price help requested! Found in barn!

Here's hoping the oil might just be a couple of oil return tube o-ring seals giving up; nice easy fix!

For under 3K it would have to be a total wreck for you not to be able to bring it up to a very nice standard without spending 3 times it's value. Sounds like a good deal[:D].

Just be very careful with the engine when you come to turn it over. It would be a shame to wreck the bores, if all that's wrong with it is an oil leak.

Good luck with the project!

All spark plugs looked fine. Oil tank is empty, all the oil was on the shed floor when I found the car. It appears to have all come from the 1-3 cyl. side.
I squirted Marvel Mystery Oil into the plug holes. Tomorrow, I'll remove the fuel tank, clean it out, blow out all lines, etc.
Then, new oil filter, oil, and turn it over w/plugs out to build oil pressure, and look for leaks.
I appreciate any and all suggestions! Have I missed anything of import?

Sounds good, short of stripping it down thats about all you can do.

Could the oil leak be rocker covers? Mine used to leak and regularly filled the heat exchangers, much like your picture!

Thanks, Gary-
I'm hoping it is something that simple! The PO said it "started smoking and I parked it."
The last year licensed is 1987! Also, Michelin tire date codes are '87 and '86.
Are there any seal issues on that side, like the MFI pump drive?
It seems to be right near #3.

clearly you've got an oil leak but it may be a simple fix, could simply be the oil return tube seal that's gone, this is a fix that will take about an hour and can be done without removing the heat exchanger or dropping the engine, or even easier it could be the lower valve cover gasket, a 30 minute fix.

But also consider it could be something that will require an engine strip down, you really won't know unitl you've cleaned it up a bit and refilled it will oil, keep us posted

oh and if it is an oil return tube leak, I strongly recommend you get the weltmeister aluminium tubes as a rplacemnet, they have a ridge on the tube that makes fitting them so much easier than the steel versions that are avialble (and cost the same)
