Protective Film - Which one?

I think it's a shame to have a car and not be able drive it too much due to the concerns over the mileage and affecting the value especially a car that is holding or appreciating in value.
I can also see that it's not always that straight forward where the value could become part of the retirement or pension planning.

Unfortunately though life is not a rehearsal and in the scheme of things we are not on the Planet for that long so if you love owning and driving a great car, get out and drive it when you like!
However if you are an art collector park it up, look at it, polish it and rarely take it out (not to be confused with the obvious gentlemen!), but then why would you be on this forum surely this is where petrol head's hang out, not art collectors [:D]

Geoff - out of interest was the GT3RS and it's value a happy accident or did you buy the car thinking or knowing it's value would go up as quick as it has?
I must admit I was looking at them just before you got yours and my thinking was that a) it's an awesome machine, and b) it will definitely increase in value.

When I first saw the car I loved it, the way it looked, what it would do and chased it through 3 dealers before being able to do the deal (don't think it would go through 3 dealers before it sold today) as the first 2 were selling on behalf of the owner.
At the time I could not really afford it but having driven it I had to buy it and don't regret it for a minute its the best car I have ever owned. At the time I just expected it to hold its value but since then the whole situation has changed because of the vast increase in value and the fact that I now have a way to pay off the house. I change my mind every time I drive it, if I leave it in the garage for a couple of months then I think I should take advantage of my luck and turn it into cash, when I drive it there is no way I'm going to sell it.
Difficult one lets hope my 6 numbers come up then problem solved.

Now I need to go to the garage and get my fix !

Hi guys,

A bit off topic but I need to get my front bumper/apron repainted due to all the stone chips. My 997.1 is in Guards Red. Does anyone have a good recommendation as to who would do a great job of this? I was considering to remove the apron myself as i have to fix the AC Evaporators and doing some other works in my garage. I hope and assume that any chosen paint specialist would be able to match the colour from the existing apron and paint code but your thoughts please. P.S. Im in Region 24 (Cambridge).

Colour matching will be no problem for a good paint shop and no doubt someone will be along soon to recommend a firm in your area.

If you decide to remove the front bumper yourself, take a look at the index in the 997 Register Technical section ((Members Only), where you will find an article on how to do it. You may care to clean out and preserve the rads and fit protective mesh to the air inlets at the same time.

Regards,

Clive.

I'm with Clive as regards Protective Film.

I have never bothered on new cars, have picked up plenty of stone chips and yet on trade in OPC have never tried to "chip" the price if you pardon the pun. I ought to add I am not an obsessive car washer and so a few stone chips are hardly noticeable through the grime.

That said, I tend to be in Geoff's camp as regards taking the car out at the moment. Not on account of stone chip risk but I hate to see the effect of salt on suspension and other exposed areas. Makes no sense I know but there you are.
