pse mod understanding

When you say they dont work with 25mm, do you mean the welders dont work with it, or the bypass doesnt work with 25mm?

Whoops didn't mean to scare you. I meant the exhaust places and garages I went too just they didn't have any 25mm pipe and they never worked with such a small pipe.

well, managed to sort this today as been busy, its better and lost a lot of the blown sound, but in honesty, if i knew then wht i know now, i dont think id have done it. its not a nice sound improvement, its still possible i may even take it off.

personally, i would say to anyone thinking of it, dont bother. its louder yes, but you lose the note change at 5k and the sound now doesnt do the car credit i dont think imo

Got any sound clips for us. Must admit your the first person to say this. Maybe you may have been better off buying the ready made pipes from H&S, mybe the curves really do matter.

Have a read of this thread: http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=30968&hl=oettles after the initial part of getting people together, you'll see comments of people that done it, any never a bad word said.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm...

will sort some clips soon, reading your link, i agree with the last post made. as i say, louder yes, but not a good noise.

i came from a 4.3 V8 with sleeved pipes, so its not the fact its loud that i don't like, its just the fact it simply sounds like a blown exhaust, not a sports sound

it doesn't enhance the original sound

I think the last post on there was the only one with a negative comment.

The rest claim no difference in sound unless you put the pedal to the floor.

Did you use Stainess Steel pipes?

I was not looking for more noise (that would be easy), it was the tone like yourself.

Rather old post, but I did purchase the pipes and got them put on locally.

Findings the tone totally changed sounds lovely, volume is the same so it's not loud at all (ashame).

Foot down all the way through rev range, couldn't really notice noise from the inside changing, however quick 2nd, and 3rd change-ups without going through the rev range, can definetly hear that nice tone.

Overall am pleased with the mod, would have liked a little more volume, but on a daily basis I think this is fine. Thanks for all the input.

Hi, I have indeed used the Oettle exhaust and it has an excellent sound (just like PSE). The point to note however is that the diameter and length of the pipe is crucial to the tone, or else it sound very "rough". Think of a woodwind or brass instrument - the length and diameter are important to the tone. The Oettle seemed to have this tuned the sound very very well so that it sound crisp at high revs, retains a deep rumble at lower revs, yet does not boom annoyingly at motorway crusing. If you still have a problem you need to get the measurements exactly as per the Oettle. Another point to note is that oversized and or too short a length will affect the torque and engine braking of the car. The 2.5 engine is particularly sensitive (size does matter !) and I noticed a drop off in low down torque. All engines need some back pressure from the exhaust ( or tuned resonance to be more precise) to operate, Hence the variable inlet manifold in Porsche's.
Interesting enough I did investigate the fitting of a solenoid or vacuum operated valve to make it switchable. In theory all(?) you need is a pair of exhaust recirculation valves from to be welded in at the pipes (ala PSE) and made switchable via a vacuum relay (again from S/h) - simples - me thinks ! Anyway the exhaust on mine is coming off for sale as my car goes back to original (a phase I'm going through!), although if I see a s/h PSE I would probably fit it ! Good luck with box.

Hey there. I didn't experiment the pipes were from Hayward & Scott, tried and tested so I assumelenght and width are all good.

slightlyoff topic , I´'ve fitted 3 different exhaust tips / outlets on a 987 , all gave different sound tuning to the exhaust note. If you talk with Gert Carnewal in Belgium he will tell you it takes a lot of testing to get the right sound from modding an exhaust. Home DIY modding is possible but you need to experiment or follow an identical pattern to something thats already been tried and proven..

In total agreement. Happy enough with the sound. So happy days as soon as the rain goes away and the Sun is back :)
