PSE

I am getting PSE fitted to my 997 cab with sports chrono next week. I undersatnd that the exhaust is in "loud" when the sports button is activated. I also know that some people have dectivated the valve so that the exhaust is on all the time. The OPC will not or cannot do the latter. Is there a way of acivating /deactivating the "loud" without activating the other sports functions such as the faster tiptronic response etc. With sports activated you can dectivate the PAS. Can anyone advise?

Try looking on Renntech - I may be wrong but from memory the 997, unlike the 996 PSE, is controlled from the DME / ECU - and there is no fix for it yet.

The 996PSE has a control unit, housed in the relay space under the dash, which can be modified easily to not turn off between 25 and 40mph.

Sorry

Philip

Ah Ashley Ashley Ashley... what have you done? [:D]

Great minds think alike obviously. Since getting my Carrera 4, Matthew has been bugging me about getting PSE. Thus far I've managed to put him off but expect that his 'subtle reminders' will bear fruit before too long.

I mentioned the possibility of having it done at JCT Newcastle and was told "around £1500"... and that was two weeks ago when I saw you reaching into your pocket!

I will watch this thread with interest and will listen for you coming into the car park next month!

The PSE is fantastic and really transforms the quality and character of the 996.

But, I really wouldn't bother with the switch. The default position is 'on', there is no reason to turn it off and it's quiet on small throttle openings. You'll pay a lot extra for a switch you may never use.

I've got PSE on my current car hence the prospect of being without it is difficult to imagine, its contagious. Agreed I've never used the switch in two years and this is where the labour cost is. I'll inquire about fitting without the switch

I disagree, I have the switch and I use it sometimes. Not often , but everyday go to work I try not to wake a 7 day old baby up. Plus when I sell the new owner may not like it too noisey and it's a beast when you rag it.

Agreed, in the current anti-car climate defo worth having the switch as it really is surprisingly loud. Believe it or not, there are plenty of folk who don't share our love of a great engine noise. And speaking as one who frequently finds myself plotting the untimely demise of the multitudes of local noisy motorcyclists that plague our roads I can see their point.

Northway nr Reading fitted mine for £1500 (admittedly not convenient for Co Durham) but it goes to show that it can be done if a local specialist wants the work.

East London OPC fitted mine with switch for 1500 quid, plus bought me new tail pipes as they said they dented one (I could not even see dent)

Mine was done at Redline Racing for 1600 including the switch and they did a great job. JCT wouldn't go lower than 1900 for me.
Redline provided a courtesy car too

Its been ages since I posted but as exhaust notes are of intersest to me I thought I'd mention the pair of Dansk boxes I had fitted for £700 all in including lovely chrome tips. Not switchable but on light throttle they're deep; not loud, however, on full throttle they sing like tom jones falling on the cross-bar of his bike!

Dare I say it... I run a set of Fabspeed rear boxes on my 996... though I must admit, i do love that pse sound too!

I think Richard knew someone who did a simple mod to existing exhausts for about 200 GBP - if only they did a switchable version, I'd go for one of those - can't afford the 1500 GBP for a genuine one though

I can't justify the cost of the PSE even though i would love them. Would the Oettle boxes on Ebay or Dansk be the better choice. Also, are oval tips the only option or would any other tips fit my '99 C2 Tip. Where can I get cheap Dansk boxes. Other threads mentioned Addspeed

I was seriously disappointed with the sound from my '99 996 C2 (considering the true 911 noise from my 1980 SC) that I opted for the Oettle option.

It does indeed transform the car but I think that my next move will be a pair of Sport Cats from www.design911.com (as there must be a huge amount of sound deadening on my car).

Incidentally, after hearing of £1500 OPC deals, I enquired as to the cost of the PSE from OPC Edinburgh and (as usual) received a snotty response from the service receptionist. He said (and I quote) "996's are old cars now and things will have seized. Theres no discount available. It'll be at least £2,200"

I don't think I'll go back.

Funny, my car used to be serviced by OPC Edinburgh and when I called them to try to verify the history and stamps in the book (2nd hand purchase), the service manager was downright rude and dismissive implying it was a long time ago and didn't really care to speak to me. He basically terminated the call with me none the wiser.

Hello Seb,

My C4S is with Paragon at this very moment and I have asked them to check mine as I have a similar issue. In my case though they report my actuators have seized. I was just about to post a request for assistance from the forum on part numbers and ask if this is a doable DIY replacement?
Anyone have any ideas on both?

Thanks RB, the mystery continues!
I have no idea having searched different forums. I know mine could go quiet as my garage recently closed the valves they say. I just cant figure it out.
If you find out more please let me know and likewise I will do the same.
