Hi

I have recently had fitted the PSE and have the original exhaust with the chrome tips for the 997 (non S) .

I wonder if there is a market for these ( car has not done 10K), if so what sort of price or should I keep and refit when selling the car.

Jonathan

jonathanw,

As for the standard exhaust, probably scrap value only.

The only way you might get some pennies back is to remove PSE at sale time and sell on separately.

I am in the same boat as you after the X51 retrofit except I have half an engines worth of 'scrap' parts !

Scrap or spare? If you don't go for PSE on a future model......

In my case, definately scrap.

Thinking about it, nice though it is in certain circumstances, I wouldn't say PSE is a must have option on a future car. A lot of expense for a fancy valve or two.

I disagree with Yves. I think the PSE is a must have option on a 997. It enhances the driving experince of a great 911. Its not just about the odd valve or two its about enjoying a driving experience, Great steering, great brakes, fantastic performance and a wonderful noise. Its not just about speed

£1300 is a good price and yes you get the chrome tips.

Also, when you get it - disconnect the brown connector plug and it will be loud all the time - right through the rev range - much better.[:)]

This is it:

I can sell you mine if you want, it has been languishing at Parr Motorsport for the last month. 20.000 miles, replaced with Cargraphics exhaust, no tips (using them on my car), and I need to get rid of it somehow. If you are interested email me and I will do a far better price.

I have just spoken to Nottingham OPC, the price for PCGB members for supply and fitting of the PSE complete with on/off switch in the cabin is now £1610.82p

It was back in March when I had mine fitted at Notts I negotiated price after seeing the offer on a 911.com link for the 996 boys. I paid £1300 (it would of been more expensive if I hadn't of had Sport Chrono), Cambs OPC were quoting £1800 plus. Notts said they couldn't widely advertise it as Porsche pricing boys might get upset. At the time there was some equal deals to be had with some of the top Porsche independants and as they also used original Porsche parts you warranty wasn't affected. One side of my take off 997S tips now sits at the end of my BMW 320si exhaust and really makes a good noise when the revs are up!

Are they worth £1610.82p - you bet.

A quick question, if I have the PSE installed complete with the in cabin on/off switch by my OPC and then disconnect the brown connection to get PSE right through acceleration will I still be able to use teh switch to switch it on/off?

I think you'll find the brown connector is carrying the signal from the in-cabin switch to open and close the PSE bypass, so the answer has to be 'no'! I did hear from someone that the valve likes to be operated from time to time, presumably to discourage sooting-up, so I guess it's a good idea to connect it now and again.

Just to throw the questioning cat amongst the PSE pigeons (I don't have PSE but was seriously tempted!) has anyone taken the trouble to listen to the standard sound thrown out behind a 997 Carrera? Get someone to accelerate your car away from you and I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what you can't hear from the driver's seat. PSE of course lets the driver hear everything and it's an intoxicating sound too.

I think personally PSE is too loud outside the car for everyday, longterm use. Fair enough, you can turn it off, but doesn't that make it all a bit false? I am now expecting a stream of abuse as a kill-joy!

Not from me. Could'nt agree more !

I am considering having the PSE retro fitted to my 2005 C2S by a local Nottingham Porsche independant (ABM or HAC) using official Porsche parts based upon the fact that they can do it with the on/off switch in the cabin whilst bypassing the cut off which gives you the best of both worlds.

This post on rennteam seems to indicate this is possible:

Being non technical I would appreciate views from the informed parties on the forum about risk, warranty, potential problems and the recommendation on how to do it in the above post.

Thanks in advance

Hi m4ttc
I have recently bought a used 997 fitted with a sports exhaust.
It sounds a bit better when switched on but IMO not worth the £1600. Trouble is if you don,t go for it you may regret it, so Bite the bullet and get everything in the book. Good luck
