Query from far, far away

Well I didnt... but someone else did.... I paid 72,000 euro for it when it was 2 years old.

But if you want a bigger laugh - the starting price for the new 997 turbo over here is 240,000 euro.

So what would stop us from putting our car on a ferry and coming across and doing a private sell? A 2 years old Boxster S would go for some 43,000 euro over here(probably even less)...

Probably the same as if you import a car to the Netherlands - the extra cost is related to tax which is payable on registration of the vehicle?

Pete

The tax you pay - Vehicle Registration Tax is a percentage of the open market value as determined by our customs.

Typically it is about 30% of the value on a car like a boxster. A friend of mine recenlty imported a 1995 993TT which he pays about 45k sterling for I think. The tax upon importation was 27,000 euro.

So, basically, we wouldnt really save any money as such, but the pool to choose from is much greater. But in Ireland, people mostly part-ex cars and trying to sell a box privately for 60 or 70k would be too hard. I traded an 01 2.7 for this car ( got 46k for it too ).

So, we are caught either way.

Hi Steve,
No, I am in the U.K., Sussex in fact where just down the road the temperature reached 36.3C today, a U.K. record since records began, possibly hotter than Dubai? Jacqui and I stayed at the Dusit on the way back from Singapore and Thailand in February for we have a good friend who is Vice-President Dusit Group, it's not what you know, it's who you know!
Have a great day. All the best, John 'Jeb' Jones

We stayed at the Jumeirah Beach and had an upgrade to the Bhurj al Arab courtesy of a friend of my wife who we bumped into in reception. It was amazing being driven up to the front door in a white Rolls Royce Seraph, all the guests peering in the tinted windows only to find the two of us jump out in shorts and t-shirts and not Brad and Angelina! It was the most garish and tasteless hotel I've ever seen and if it was my own money paying the $9,000 night bill, I would have been seriously disappointed! You do get a two story suite and a personal butler though....

The desert safari was amazing. I used to work at Land Rover a few years ago and have done countless miles on the off road course at Eastnor Castle, even getting an off road instructor licence, but even I was impressed by the capability of the Toyota Land Cruisers on the dunes. What was more impressive was the drivers understanding of the desert. Our chap was driving for an hour accross a seemingly featureless expanse of sand in every direction to the horizon, slowed down, turned left and there was a gate leading onto the exact spot on the highway where we needed to be. Amazing!

Apologise in advance for threadjacking

So I take it you didn't buy the gold violin or waist at Burj Al Arab shop? The internal building: They must have been on some budget, as only the Pillar were of gold everything else just gold plated...

Luckily your wife didn't discover Gold Souk as my wife did - A huge shopping mall with every single shop selling only gold and diamonds...

Desert safari was great but if you ever get a chance do the same in Tunisia as the experience is exactly the same but after all the sand and dunes out of nowhere appears Tatooine! Yes, Lucas has left the Star Wars Ep I Tatooine village behind and the beauty is that it is left to the elements with no maintenance, right in the middle of the Tunisian desert.

Tatooine:

Here is what remained from the pod race, just there in the middle of the desert:

Awesome pics of Tatooine!! Any more? You should have picked up that relic from the pod race and sold it on Ebay for

ONE MILLION POUNDS!!!.[:D]

I'm amazed the locals haven't done the same with the elements left over from the 1st pic (unless they are listed items, under penatly of death or something)

Well, see, anyone who can afford to have a 4X4 to pick anything from the set know it will hurt the tourist trade so respect and preserve it and those who would want to make a quick buck cannot get to it as it is in the desert far, far away...

Oh, BTW, Brian was also crucified there! ...because he was not the Messiah but just a naughty boy! [:D]

I've ordered it!
Somehow managed to get from a standard car to

Boxster S
Tiptronic
Silver
Black / grey leather interior
Sports seats
Bi-xenons
Bose

doesn't come until December though [:(]

Dealer was excellent, and they even loaned me their demonstrator for the weekend. When I asked what the maximum mileage limit was he just laughed and gave me the keys!

I assume plenty of you here have also tried a Cayman S, how does the variocam engine compare to the 3.2??

Steve
