Have 2001 Boxster S at moment, going to go big 4x4 , have had Cayenne for half day, same with Disco3, not much in it! and I,m a porsche owner at present, can I have othe peoples thoughts! What is Cayenne V6 long term build quality like? Also thoughts on used value after 1/ 2 years, thanks all, PS Have Disco 3 AND Cayene (used, 2000 miles)lined up for delivery this week! need urgent advise!!

V6 Cayenne isn't old anough for me to give you an informed answer to these questions.

i had a 2.7 Boxster and we bought a Cayenne s. i think i would have found the V6 Cayenne a bit under powered after being used to the Boxster.

Thanks Helen, Its a funny thing I very rarely use the power of the Boxster S! its the quality I wanted(I use my motorcycle when I want speed+power, its much more fun than the car!)You had , or aware of any problems on the Cayenne S?

We have a farm and I've run a variety of 4x4s over the years.

Historically, Land Rover quality has been patchy. The new Disco may look nice, but I'd let them practice making a few for a while before I would consider one.

If you want an SUV, the other option is the X5 3.0d.

I'm not into 4x4s in a big way, but everything I've seen seems to say that the Disco is way too heavy - so would be hugely underpowered?

Also have been some Cayenne quality niggles but nothing as bad as Land Rover's reputation.

Buy a Pajero!! [;)]

45p per mile, all inclusive of fuel, servicing, insurance and depreciation (what depreciation?) Never let me down, no niggles.....

Porsche had to have it back for a week as one morning when we started it up it sounded like a sack if chains being rattled. Porsche sorted it with no fuss or bother and its been ok since. we haven't heard of anyone else whos had this happen so hopefully its a one off.

BTW if you drive the Cayenne gently and use optimax you'll get much better MPG than advertised.

Just read your posting - if it's not too late - I've just completed 20,000miles in my Cayenne S over the last 15 months, with no more than a couple of broken seat clips to report, and a rear window microswitch that failed (a well known fault, apparently). Average 18mpg from new, probably better than that now it's loosened up. It's a superb mile eater, and practical too.

Major gremlins in the electrics, and after 5 trips back to the dealers, they are having it in again.... some of the faults have been a pain like the seat memory failing, or the BOSE stereo going dead, or the CDC changer failing, others are frustrating, such as the worst auto gearbox I have ever driven that kangaroos when its cold, to others that are dangerous, such as the rear window opening itself as you drive along, or the headlights suddenly deciding to dip themselves as you drive along or drivers mirrors that randomly power themselves... I could go on as there are more. I think the owners of any early car ( and the disco will be the same) end up acting as a test & development driver... Avoid any newly launched vehicle. End result is that I would actually go for the Cayenne now, as current ones from the factory should be sorted - or save yourself some cash and go for the Toureg - as the only reason I went for the cayenne was the V8 - can't see the point of paying a premium with the V6 models.
Question/ Caynne V6 vs Disco V6??

haven't had any of those problems with the Cayenne.

BTW i had one of the first Freelanders to come off the production line, and i had no (apart from an electric window motor having to be replaced after a couple of months)problems with it at all. the Landrover dealership were the best car dealership i've ever been a customer of..Porsche should take lessons.

I tested a Cayenne and ordered a Disco V6 which arrived 10 days ago. Impressions of the Cayenne were excellent although with a mileage of 35k per annum its fuel consumption and propensity to eat tyres ruled it out for me. The Disco easily equals the Porsche for quality and has returned over its first 1k miles 25.5 mpg. Previous Discos have all used tyres at the rate of 45k to 60k miles per set dependant upon manufacturer. So its not a sports car but easily keeps up with the traffic and will cruise very quietly at 80mph. I will echo Helen's comment about service, it is always excellent - HR Owen Colchester.

21 - 22 MPH, that's eutopia for me, had my S for 2 months 4K miles and still only getting 14 - 15mph !

Please tell me it'll get better !!

using optimax and driving very smoothly helps the MPG. when i drive the S the best i can manage is about 18MPG where as my Hubby (who drives it the most) averages about 22MPG
