Question from a newbie

ORIGINAL: Paul Fraser

Glad to see it went to someone who put it back on the road. I think I'd rather buy a car that needs the interior tidied as compared to the outside. Look forward to the pics.

To true, its had some cash spent on it thats for sure as I have all the reciepts from tyres to bare metal resprays!! On thing I have to sprt on the body work is some cracking/peeling on the front bumper!

Here you go, a few pics from Today, sadly the bloody thing wouldnt start otherwise the background may have looked better!!!!!! Turns with no fire, oh well mechanic will be back soon. No surprise but have a couple of electical faults, mostly lights as in the only one that works is the rear left indicator!!!!!! Oh well.

3rd, if it'll only start it'll be great! Putting it down to all the wet weather! And yes, it does need a clean ;-)

Hi :)

Lovely looking car and same colour as mine (Iris Metallic Blue)

My first piece of advice to anyone with electrical problems (or non start) on a 928 is this...

Go to local motorshop and buy a brand new set of blade fuses for the fusebox (under the passengers foot carpet) and change them ALL for new ones......you will be amazed at how many things start to work :)

All the best Brett :)

Right, I'll do that tomorrow, I did cast my eyes over them and they looked ok from the outside but better safe than sorry I guess (although theres loads of em!). It was running fine about 5 weeks ago! So dont really know what can have gone so wrong. Yeah, I love the colour, when its clean it look great!
Thansk for the advice :)

The bodywork looks good; nice looking car, good buy. Assume you managed to get the seats out after getting the engine going but FYI, there is a manual way of moving the seats forward and backward. IIRC there is a hole in the plastic cover in the front centre of the seat where you can insert an allen key and turn/move the seat forward/backward.

The seats are the least my worries now (passengers is fine, drivers is good apart from F&B). Drove it around the yard a few times before trying to take it home, all was god until I felt a knock from the clutch which buggered my attempts of getting it home. Still starts fine and sounds good, hope its a simple one, I can get gears when stood but not when running via clutch (it just grinds). I'm, going to get mechanic down hopefully this week, but if he's to busy I'd like to get in in somewhere who basically can get it running in a almost legal way, all in one go (inc electrics)!!!
BTW I changed all the fuses today and it started 1st time!!!!! Still have problems with lights but drivers window works and now only have rear drivers indicator not wanting to play plus loads of others!!!
I so want to get this on the road, its a lovely looking car, I have a deadline of end of April as I start boat racing then and it deserves to get the attention it needs!
Looks like I'm on the phone tomorrow, thanks for all the help so far.

Hi :)

Where are you in the UK....maybe I will know someone local ish to you, to sort your clutch..

All the best Brett :)

Hi :)

Tell me whats wrong with the lights as I probably know the answer, especially if its a going up or down problem...

All the best Brett :)

Hi Brett,
I'm in Plymouth I'm affriad, along way from anywhere!!!
a) the clutch was late but working ok, then a clunk! then nothing, pedal is VERY slow (if it does)in coming back up etc etc.
b) the lights, no front headlights but they come up, (just with no light)
c) no indicators at the rear and only the rear drivers light working
d) no windscreen wipers

Ah, the joys of a 1979 car!!!
Thanks
Dan

Hi Dan :)

I am in Bournemouth so not that far from you :)

Ok...

1... Clutch has got to be linkage....not clutch itself...get it up on a ramp and have a close look...

2...Main headlights are almost CERTAINLY the main headlight relay...its the one top right thats twice the size of any other...to check it borrow one and try it because they are around £70..

3...Indicators and other lights...change bulbs first...

4...Wipers...fuse or relay....

Hope this helps :)

All the best Brett :)

Looks well alright, good colour too! On the lookout myself, getting well acquainted with the various sites advertising them! I'll be interested to hear what you find wrong! Best of luck with it!

Yup, checking it every day, but looking for a 78 if at possible, 79 if its a good one, so most are too new for what I'm after.
I'm in no rush at the moment so keeping an eye out.
