Question:Prices of 3.6 Turbo

ORIGINAL: Andrew M Bonner

Update...

Well as I said "The value debate may go on".......the promised bill of sale arrived with me today and turned out not to be the 'original', but from a Nov-1996 purchase at Lancaster Cambridge (39000miles), costing 55k.

So as a recap it has been suggested that the 3.3 / 3.6cc original list prices in early '90's would have been:

3.6 cc from Zermatt - £160k,
3.3 cc from graeme36s - £90k
3.3cc from baker07 - £81.216k

Also some recent searching established that 'minty' has worn a number of plates since 10-5-93, starting with the well known K876XRX, then ....911 HUL, K749PTP, MSG75, K699LMM, ADZ945, K113GFL, UDP2, BIL7073.

My search for knowledge about the history of my car goes on...........

Andy,

The 3.3 was quoted at £73k in 1991 so my guess for your 3.6 by 1994 was around £80k (c.£160k at today's prices). As Graeme says, I wouldn't be surprised if it had reached £90k though, as in 1995 the list price on a 993 turbo was £91k.

It's great that your car has worn the famous 911 HUL reg - it has been worn by all the best Porsches! Good luck finding the rest of the history of your car.

Cheers,

Tim.

Hi Nathan,

I have to say that it wasn't a total surprise about the early Porsche history on the car, but the 911 HULL plate wasn't expected at all.

The 4th owner who was the proprietor at The Swan Public House in Mill Road Cambridgeshire purchased the car from Lancaster in '96, then selling it in 2001 where it came further 'South' to Epsom and then Littlehampton, and now Dorset.

During the winter months I am seeking to delve deeper into the car's background with Porsche GB, following on with a 'minty' website later in 2009.

Prior to 'Minty' being acquired the previous price was the £40k for the Metallic Blue 24k car from Northways that went to Eire

Regarding the SY car on Pistonheads (I LOVE the car in that colour!!!) I believe there are no more than 3 in this country in that colour. There was another one advertised on PH only a few months ago for around £34K IIRC with somewhat higher miles but there was a rumour that one of the 3 had suffered some damage in it's lifetime.

I know one of the owners up North but have no more information about the other two.

Regards

Dave

Yes your right of course Dave yellow is a fine colour, and shows off the '64 very well, it would be wrong of me to suggest otherwise, particularly in light of 'mintys' acquired appearance.

For me though yellow is something I did on an RS4 Avant a little while ago, I never got used to boy racer '*-#kers' that wanted drive up my bum all the time. For that reason and that alone I would have to say no to yellow - not again.

Latest update posted @ 16:25. I discussed the car with a dealer, who shall remain nameless today, they say "We have been trying to buy this car for a fair while now, its done the rounds a bit, we were being offered it about 6 times a week by various traders around the UK, makes you wonder why it hasn't sold yet, apparently the interior isn't too good and needs re-trimming, not a patch on minty that car".

Hi Gordon

I remember the car, lovely colour combo'. I spoke to Northway about it the weekend before it was inspected by the guy from Eire, only to be told after I was too late. However my gain, as shortly after Minty came on the market.

This is absurd. I have my car listed at £3k less than anything equivalant and i am not getting any calls apart from monkeys with M3s wanting to PX. I was offered £22k by a garage but that is the only offer I have had. as anyone got any suggestions??!?!

Yours looks a lot of car for the money ! Air-cooled 3.6 turbo`s are not so common
and hence they can cost twice the price ! crazy times

One Speed Yellow 964 Turbo 3.6 is definitely Cat D. I nearly bought it 3 years ago at a very sensible price.

...... and of course there's the rebuilt ex Hong Kong black Turbo 3.6 that recently sold on eBay for £18k!

Freddie, (monty)

You seem to have the right car at a fair price and in good condition; unfortunately the market has got a bad case of the 'jitters' at the moment. A comparable car is for sale at Paragon and represents a similar deal (although I haven't studied the spec against yours closely). Paragon a finding things a little slow at the moment, judging by the static nature of their adverts at http://www.paragon.gb.com/sales/vehicle-details.asp?ID=627294

Murphy's law - I sold one of my Audi's a little while ago (54 plate S4 avant nimbus grey) and would have been interested in a PX with your car back then.

My advice is, keep plugging away with the advert the car is worth it; even if you don't get a bite until the better weather comes.

Have you seen this? It's very clean and apart from the colour, arguably one of the best I have seen in a couple of years.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/779516.htm

I did - it looks very nice although I have to sat the interior is a bit "challenging". Is yellow car in the picture of the two cars outside Paragon a 3.3 turbo S by any chance? It has the front and side scoops and looks very low. If it is, I bet it was the one featured in Autocar back in early 1993 - that had the polished Speedlines. The article was written by David Vivian and followed the new owner as he went to Stuttgart to collect it from Porsche, as they were special order only from Porsche. Apparently it was number 5 out of 6 RHD cars, with Nick Faldo's black car (which I have seen) being the fourth. The chap (Peter Hartley) paid £128k for it! Not as famous as yours though!

Hi Tim

I have to say your knowledge of then yellow car is much greater than mine. V interesting [;)]

Have seen Nick 'F' old car at Gmund - lots of money !! and the Sultans ex car is at Shaun Lockyers - also lots of money; although gradually coming down recently I notice !

These are awesome cars; which at the time of manufacture Porsche didn't actually admit to making, or similar sentiments; do you suppose you had to be someone to be offered the opportunity to purchase one of these?

It's the rather more middle class, but no less exclusive minty for me though !

Hi Andy,

I have several books on 911 turbos and one features articles from various magazines over the yaers - this car was featured. Funny you should say your saw the Faldo car as Gmund - that is where I saw it too and where I bought my car! The Faldo car was recently for sale again at nearly £100k! The car as Sean Lockyear's is lovely, but still overpriced I think...

I would think you are probably right in that you had to have a "relationship" with Porsche to get a turbo S.

Yours still has more provenace than the yellow car though!

Cheers,

Tim.

P.S. That Slate Grey 3.6 on PH will be hard to shift without the Speedlines - that calls into question how well a car has been looked after. There's a midnight blue car for sale on PH at £5k more that looks like a better bet...

Hmm, I thought that about the grey one with missing speedlines; does tend to make you wonder why they would have been disposed of ?

Haven't spotted the midnight blue one, will check that out over the weekend; if it's any good I know someone who may be interested.
