Hi all as some may know Iv been trying 2 brake my 944 S.

However find the time has proven harder then thought. Car is outside so Iv been trying 2 take it apart in a way that would keep parts exposed 2 unessery elements.

However Iv got 2 get the car apart and quickly. As it now is no longer welcome.

Iv striped the Inside and front end up 2 the engine and bonnet.

As the shell will be scrap and I'm working from floor jacks my plan was to cut away the front and pull the engine follwards.

What I'm wondering is it possabile 2 remove the engine and front wishbones, wheels e.c.t togther and then strip down rather then removing the the items peace by peace.

And like wise with the rear set up

Would consider offers on a complete sale. Engine has been spoken 4 by Madrob can still be sold 2 him b4 or after.
Front leather comfort seats, new rack and rebuilt pump from p-shop
Gaz gold coilovers
Refurbed wishbone full poly bushed
Refurbed roll bars
968 castor mounts
Cup mirrors ( auto club sport type ) genuine glass and gastics new motors
968 spoiler on the hacth ( eBay one )
New disc and pads
Cup 993 16" wheels with longer studs good contental sport tires.
New front wheel bearing
Braid brake lines
Porsche door handles
New windscreen that's not had the wipers used on it.

Got head lights badge pannle, rad everything that was fremoved from the front minis the front turbo front bumper.

Shell is pretty much rust free from put side due 2 a recent respray, however the jack point went on the front and the sills would need attention, this along with the power steering bracket snapping on the engine ment it need even more money. I aquirred a turbo which this car would off funded in parts money.

Thanks

You may already have had a response regarding the stripping do apologies if this is duplicated, the downside of being at work with only a crap/ limited o2 signal and having to type on the iPhone ! In answer to your question regarding the strip down, if you want to remove the engine, cross member and front suspension as one unit it can be done.

The easiest way to do this is as follows:

1. Jack the car up as high as you can get it an support on the axle stands & blocks of wood- you'll need good height to get everything out.

2. If you haven't done already remove the gearbox.

3. Remove the exhaust and system from the manifold backwards, then undo the 4x 17mm bolts holding the torque tube into the bell housing. You can do this with both the starter motor and clutch slave in place but best to remove them anyway as its less to do to get the engine out. Pull the TT backwards and twist it to clear the rear axle.

4. If your scrapping the car completely you might want to drop the rear axle as well. Just won't be easy to move the car without it.

5. Next unplug and disconnect all the various ancillaries, water pipes( particularly heater hose at bak of engine bay), vacuum pipes, airbox, earth straps, speed and run sensor connectors, injector loom, wiring to the alternator and starter, oil pressure sender, temp sender leads you name it !

6. You'll need a heavy duty jack/ big dolly or low trolley I used a car crawler on castors. The only thing that is them holding the engine in place is the front cross member into the chassis rails.

7. Before you try to undo these big 19mm bolts that go into the chassis rails just where the track control front mounts are you'll need to:
A. Remove the 8 nuts( four each side) that hold the strut mounts into the suspension turrets
B. undo four bolts that hold the arb mounts into the chassis rails
C. Undo the pas pipe work and remove the steering shaft by undo doing the two uj's at each end.
D. Undo the flexi brake pipes from the calipers
E. undo the rear track control arm mounts = castor mounts.

8. You should now ( unless I've forgotten something which as I'm at work and not staring at the car....) be able to drop the engine, front cross member(rack attached) track control arms, calipers hubs and strus all in one lump. You might find it easier to remove the struts as they tend to flop about and unless you've got a lot of height clearance will catch in the wheel arches.

Hope this helps and if you get stuck on any if the steps above Clark's is very good for a step by step breakdown or I can help on the phone.

Btw only know how to do this having taken out my engine this way.....

Thanks 4 the info, directions.

Hoping I won't need 2 lift the car over the engine and can just pull it follwards, due 2 cut the front end open.

My advice for what it's worth is don't cut the front of the car up because:

1. Porsche 924/944/968 shells are built of thick sheet steel and take a lot of cutting, a lot of the front section is Double skinned and will take some serious cutting ( you may have all the relevant kit oxy, angle grinder etc)

2. Unless the shell you're scrapping has been pranged you should be able to sell the front nose section - pointy section to someone who is rebuilding a front end smash - although very strong in an impact, because of the wedge shape it's often very difficult to straighten out a 924/944 etc to a reasonable standard and the simple solution is to graft on a front end or at the back end the rear wheel arch section.

Yours

Chris

Would be interested in the front speakers only need the covers but if you want to sell the job lot that's also fine. Let me know.....

Hi Terry,

Don't suppose you still have the interior headlining, rear roof panel, and the rear pillar trim panels , in black do you? Bit of a long shot but mine are ropey so looking to replace ASAP.

Cheers,

Norm

I was kinda hoping a 9" grinder with dimond or carbon blade would be anoth 2 cut the front open just in front off the rad. Don't think there's a huge demands 4 front ends. Haven't got the storage space untill need arises

My main Problem Iv got is finding the time, been 2 see my friendly Porsche merchainc and have asked 4 quote 4 them 2 strip the under side off the car. And weather I can store the car there so it can be picked at by me.

Problem is I suspect the labour will be pretty much the same as the worth off parts. So the new rack and poly bushed wish bones and coilovers I may transfer 2 my turbo 2 make the expensive seem more worth while. Days labour will prob be a weeks wages so I would like 2 be able 2 do it myself but I don't want 2 get the car in a state it can't then be moved and find out I'm incapable off completling the strip down

How nasty a job is this work from floor jacks? Iv pondered rolling the car on to it side or over lol.
