Congratulations Alan. I can only imagine that a lighter, faster, sharper handling Cayman is sublime! What did you go for in terms of specification?

ORIGINAL: Alan Woods Picked up my R yesterday and am blown away just how good it is. Still has a slight hesitation at 2.2k RPM like my old S but otherwise so capable it's insane... but still great involvement. Just sat here shaking my head...
What no pics before you strip it down to fit some more toys .... and what of the old peril ?

Knowing how much I think of my Cayman S to be better which it will be must be surreal, enjoy.

Hi Alan Sounds great im so pleased as my "R' is the same spec and colour but with PDK, and having come from an 06 S and buying unseen and tried was not an easy task, so your first impressions are just what i need, if you remember we spoke about the colour way back late last year, so now you have it in the real, what are your thoughts, mine is now about 2 weeks out from Australia its been hell of a long time since Nov Bob South Australia

Hi Alan I think you have gone for the best colour for the R Peridot Metallic & reference to the wheels you have had done in black have you gone for the standard vision which will look excellent in black as they have the look of the GT3 wheels from the new 997 GT3. Part on the Sport Chrono you have had fitted has this got the Launch Control as part of the kit as I miss that piece of kit on my Cayman S Sport as this was fitted on the Gen 2 Caymans & not the Gen 1 Caymans. I have tested the R with Launch Control on it & it's out of this world what it can do as on my test drive the Salesman gave me a test away from a set of traffic lights & it excellent & it will bit any boy racer by a long run. All the best Alan & I think there will not be many Cayman R's done in that Light Metallic Green colour on UK roads & enjoy people looking at your car when they go passed as people will as I know from experience with my Cayman S Sport & the colour I went for in the end. Takecare & Enjoy your Cayman R Alan, Yours Truly Kevin [:)]

Bob you're going to love it :) Kev: Cheers for the comments. The launch control is only on the <spit> PDK ;) Off to Chester in it now :)

http://www.caranddriver.com/features/11q2/the_mid-_vs._rear-engine_debate_porsche_cayman_r_vs._911_gt3-feature Rather than focussing on which one won, I think it shows what we already knew which is that the Cayman is a great car and value for money I say. Would've been even closer if they were both on Sport Cup tyres. Alan, how are you getting on with the R? Cecil

So, around 100bhp more and 4wd and costs ££££££ more but the Cayman R was pretty close and certainly showed it's potential, now if someone built a GT3 Classified Cayman the story would be different.

I've just picked up a Boxster S today as a loan vehicle whilst mine is in with my OPC for some work. I've had a couple of Boxsters before and a Cayman but not the S versions and have missed the power compared to my S although just as great to chuck about. This Boxster S has the extra power and is fun to drive and it has been a sunny day to make the most of it. It made me realise something. I, like many, was thinking when the Cayman R was launched, that it should've been given more horse power because the platform can handle it. However, if it did and was a sub 4 second 0-62mph car and had the other necessary mechnical enhancements to harness that power, then it would be priced a lot higher and out of my reach. There is indeed a position for a each of these cars. Porsche has accepted that a mid-engined platform is the future direction to keep ahead of rivals and will introduce a mid-engined supercar above the 911 and below the 918. If they did that AND killed the Cayman I still wouldn't be happy as it'd be even more out of my reach. So, keep the Cayman and Boxster where they are, long live the 911 and bring on the new models![:)]

My new wheels ... [:)]

It's the reason I specced my own rather than waiting for a very good second owner car .... There are so many very good reasons for going with Ceramics. Tho' I may not be a typical owner [;)]
