R31 Porschettes

Still, if the main club activities are not affected and still do the usual Porsche stuff(which I want to do) then why not add extra events in?

If Porsche still made the 993 because it was tried and tested and die hards liked it, where would they be now?
Shock, horror they brought out the 996...

Its just evolving

Alison, the Club database states you joined PCGB in May 2013. If the database is correct, that is not two years.

Derek, did you look at the date Alison joined the forum, or the Club?

The forum is completely separate from the other Club IT, as we well know from the team trying to integrate it all! You shouldn't have access to the membership database. [:)]

Well, on reflection, I have got it all wrong ... [;)]

Given that half Club members and their partners are female, and given that we spent last weekend debating the venue for next year's annual event, perhaps we should go broad church and stage the event in Kew Gardens. We can visit Harrods for afternoon tea and still have time for the Shoe Concours, with extra marks for the shiniest buckle [:D] No one should mention cars, especially Porsches!

I don't!

Allison and partner joined the Forum in Sep 2013. They joined the Club in May 13.

I'm going around to my local in a minute, as is usual at this time on a Friday. It's called the Live & Let Live.

Hi Fiona

Just to say I for one am looking forward to the Burford shopping evening. Thank you for organising an event so quickly.

As a novice with one track day under my belt I would say a novice track day is a great idea.

Porschettes is a cool name , they should protect it as a trade name or something, might be valuable one day ,

I think perhaps many of the male members forget that perhaps many wives feel as if they are being dragged along to these events and don't really want to be there ( and are just doing it for hubby) , so maybe the male members should take this on board ,after all it may be in their interests to do so, that is if they wish to continue with their "hobby"

after all, men like to mix with men and talk about boys stuff, so let the women do likewise if they wish, so long as everyone is happy

and as for members criticising those who have only recently joined , it just sounds like sour old humbug grapes to me

I am thinking of having a sex change so that I can join in with the Porschettes and avoid some of the tiresome members who have nothing positive to say.

.......and Yes it is a CAR CLUB. Does that mean other activities should be frowned upon? It is even a PORSCHE CAR CLUB. So does that mean you should actually own a Porsche to qualify?

Other regions have women only outings and I see nothing wrong with that.

1. Isle of Man touring holidays (I think over 14).
2. Cotswold Rally (more than 15?).
3. Countless Drive n Dines.
4. Wings n Wheels events where R31 members had the opportunity to fly, drive, dine etc. Please see the Porsche Post article Aug 13 (best day of his life, unquote'). R31 has done a few of these. See PP Oct 11. Both large articles.
5. Visits to the Mini, Morgan and Jaguar factories. I can supply the write-up references if you wish.

Please don't take this as a criticism to previous RO's, it is genuinely not meant to be. There are some cracking events on that list that I have attended personally and others I would love to attend. My wife has thoroughly enjoyed the Cotswold Rally too. However, my wife's perspective on Derek's list would be as follows:

1. Boys driving cars quickly
2. Boys driving cars
3. See 1 and 2
4. Boys' toys
5. More car stuff

Rob you don't know what you are talking about.

1 Manx Tours.. One of my events and like most designed fo the family. That is why the bookings are for couples.

2 Cotswold/ St. George rally. Also one of mine. You know the one with the 'Family Porsche' award as we as the 'Best Dog' award.. 'Boys Driving Cars/' I think not.

Derek forgot to mention 8 Porsche & Polo events.

Next time you want to be offensive, fine but make sure of your facts.

By the way.... This is a CAR CLUB.

We're all individuals, so there's an easy solution to all this.

Enjoy the fact that many volunteers put a lot of effort into trying to make good, diverse events for members, whatever their "˜personal profile'.

Then, either:
Go to the events you want to, meet some new people and enjoy your choice.

or:
Don't go to the ones you don't want to.

Sorted.[:)]

The Club has somewhere in the region (no pun intended) of 12,000 members, the only thing we all have in common is our cars. I think this calls for some diversity of events. Variety is the spice of life.

The poet John Lydgate once wrote "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time".

Before someone jumps in and says "Abraham Lincoln said that". He actually paraphrased it and said "You can fool some of the people all of the time, you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time".

Cheers,

Did you actually read any of my posts?

I'm sure readers will be able to make up their own minds who knows what they are talking about and who is being gratuitously offensive.

Morning Derek, Big pat on the back for everything you have a achieved in the past, but this is the future.

Alison Drummond

Good afternoon Alison, Thank you for your endorsement for what Geoff & I achieved during our stewardship of R31. As you can now see, we were very diverse in our activities, though I will freely admit that little was done for the ladies. That was not by design, just that few put forward ideas, despite me requesting them. Not sure why. However, my whole point here is agreed by our Regional Director; quote:I'm not sure we could lawfully exclude the boys though these days or as a Club would necessarily want to! P. However, if lady members wish to go to a flower show, an organic farm or even arrange a track day, then great! That is up to them to arrange. You may even get a few boys tagging along.

Yes, this is the future and I have written here we must look forward not backwards.

Finally, please don't think I am a misogynist..... I only wished more ladies joined us at Club events, but many are not interested in cars and this is, after all, a car club!

I cannot see what all the fuss is about.

Alan and Fiona are the bright new order and have brought a breath of fresh air into the region.

They have my full support in what they are trying to achieve in being fully inclusive and appealing to all members. This is clearly seen by the increase in the regions activities and the attendances at their organised events.

By having 'Porschettes' activities this will only encourage more female members and partners to be a part of the region and enhance their appeal to a male dominated club.

As a point of clarification the first Manx Tour was in 2000 and was NOT organised the R31 RO as the Region did not even exist then. Geoff did this as a national event for the Club and subsequent Manx Tours have been organised in the same manner. Likewise the Cotswold Rally/St Georges Rally.

Previous ROs have had there time and done their service for the club which is very much appreciated, but there is a time to sit back and let the new order do it their way. It may not be the same way or indeed the way they would have liked to do things but there is a time to bite you lips and say 'nowt and let them get on with it.

I would like to endorse what Peter Bull has said.

Any activity which is legal and does not risk bringing the club into disrepute should be permissable. As Paul Ebbs pointed out individuals' can chose which events they wish to attend. This year there have been lots of events, club wide, where the focus is not on cars although cars are the means of conveyance to the event.

Additionally Alan and Fiona are friendly and open and have made members most welcome in our region. Both have tried to listen to members of the region and respond as far as possible to new ideas or indeed old ideas that are still worthwhile. Without Alan and Fiona I doubt if the region would have continued to have any regional activities. Given the negative attitude and curmudgeonly outlook of the usual suspects I am surprised that the two RO's wish to continue with their work. Thank you Alan and Fiona.

I felt a bit presumptuous posting in your region forum a few days , I don't participate in any region due to the nature of my work , which is mostly outside the UK.
I joined PorscheClub GB early in the year basically for more information on specific models, and there is a wealth of information here.

I was simply drawn to the region forum (and to post) due to the " Porschettes " name that I saw, and it was sad to see so many "stuffy" and negative posts about it.

and so; I was also drawn back to see what had transpired

As so many have said , it you don't like the event , well just don't go, rather than criticise the efforts of people who volunteer to give up their time to organise events.

Finally, I just hope to it works out for everyone, and I still think its a cool name
