Range recalculation

ORIGINAL: chrisH

Derek,
If you read my post I did say I had only just put 3 gals in it, actually £15 is 16.5 litres. Even if I had put more in it the fuel system would still not register unless at least 19 litres are added, I am told, so what was the point?
For the record, they said don't bother to fuel it as it was only 1/4 full when collected.
Chris

Hi Chris, my sincere apologies. Yes, this dull bu**er missed the point. You did not take the car back empty... it just read that way! I missed the vital word 'just'. Sorry. Silly system anyway!

Yes, its all a bit annoying. You take a demo car with 1/4 tank and then once the fuel light comes on put 16 litres in and nothing shows on the gauge or range so you take it back showing "empty". This is a well known fact amongst all you 911 owners but as a Boxster owner I was foxed at 6pm on a Sunday night. Thanks to this Forum I got the answer from Alan, so peace of mind at least.
Pity the OPC didn't tell me in the first place, spoilt the demo.

This must be a characteristic on some cars as my 997 always registers the petrol I put in. Even if it's just £10 worth.
The 'Miles left in Tank' indicator always re-adjusts for me.....

HE seemed a nice chat Derek - not!
I bet his car suffered after you got some juice in it eh?? Go on tell us!

No, my point was that the OPC lent him a car for trial and like many he returned it totally empty. Most also just return it with a litre of petrol and about 30 miles range. This guy milked it (literally) for all he could. I'm surprised that he did not take the spare wheel out of the car.

Sorry Derek - I miss read your post.
I had a OPC lend me a car once that had the fuel light on - I went straight back in and gave the keys back to the service guy and told him I would be having a coffee whilst someone went and filled up the car. He came over to where I was sitting and said that there was enough fuel in to get me to a garage! I replied that he should have nor worries getting there then and to call me when he got back and continued to read the magazine and drink the 'free' coffee. 5 mins later I got another car fully fuelled.
