Chaps,
'Tis the season for funny noises, or so it seems. I have my own to throw into the ring, but I don't think it is a CV joint. However, diagnosing these things via t'interweb is always an inprecise science, so I won't be upset if we don't get anywhere!
My '89 S2 makes a knocking noise. Not a loud one, but an annoying one. It seems to be related to road surface quality - i.e. it knocks when it goes over a bump. The knock is best described as a 'bobbling' noise - it's not a sharp metallic 'tap', more of a slightly muffled rattle. It sounded very like the boot lid rattling up and down - to the extent that I was convinced this was it, so I adjusted the pins at the weekend so it is held more tightly closed and also put some silicone lubricant on the rubber seals. However this didn't cure it.
Therefore, any suggestions? I think it is coming from the near side, but Mrs zcacogp is not convinced. It doesn't happen on smooth roads, it occurs when you go over a bump. It is not affected by speed. I can't see anything rattling in the boot (it sounds like it could be a boot contents rattle) - everything in the storage compartments is wedged in carefully and won't move. I thought it could be the ultrasonic sensor unit, but moving this didn't make any difference either.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Oli.
