Ray Stobbs 964

Just too update everyone.
A deposit has now been taken and so Ray's car is now sold.
Regards
Keith

It sold for just shy of £37K
Having spoken to varies people over the last few weeks, those that own 964's think £40K to £45K is a reasonable price.
People looking to buy £35K is where they see them.
Dealers on the other hand see them as £30K (to buy).
If you own one you want prices to be high, if you are buying one you want prices to be low.
Lynn got a price that she was happy with, given that she needed to sell it. It also needed to go before the winter, the insurance was due and there were little thing starting to go wrong, as there always is with these cars.
There was a lot of interest in the car but it's like the "Four Rooms" program on TV, once you have turned down an offer there is no guarantee that the next offer will be better.
I spoke to someone a while ago who has a very nice C4 insured for £50K and he said he would not sell it for that amount. I would sell mine tomorrow for that price.
It will be interesting post Brexit to see how prices fare, but as they say "They Are Not Making Any More".
On a personal note, it was very sad to see Ray's car being driven off.
Rest in peace mate

Keith

Somehow I think Ray is still with the car, watching over it... A respectful and hands-on new owner hopefully.

I too would easily take £50k Keith! Stolen is about as near as I'm going to get...

I think you did very well. I thought it was valued at £35k from a private seller and the fact it was a high mileage despite the rebuild and new suspension. So well done Keith and I hope Lynn is happy.

£50K .. I wouldnt sell my c2 for less either ( just sold my M3 CSL as enjoy the 964 more ) ... it would only ever go to be replaced with something else, and to be honest at £40k-£50K region there is very little of interest apart from a 987 spyder or a caymanR .. and to be honest id prefer a 964 over either anyway. Don't think the grass is greener .. 964's are great cars.

As it happens , I would love a ferrari 550 but they are also big money these days.

If I had to sell because I had to sell .. then that puts a different perspective on things and you have to go with the offers made at the time. Stil think though , in the long run the 964 is going to be seen as the aircooled of choice

Agree with that one. Tried Ferrari's 15+ years ago (308's) - could live with the looks but not with the car, praying it doesn't cough or eat in to savings every annual service.

The Cayman R has been a popular choice for many long term 964 and 964RS owners. I would not describe my R as better than my 964 as it is impossible to define what 'better' is. The R is both different and similar to the 964 in many ways. Both feel special and engaging to drive. So for me the R has been the perfect replacement.

Well done Keith.

Think you were always going to get a buyer. It all depended on who was prepared to get close to the asking price and part with the money. When it comes down to it some people say they want something, but when push comes to shove, they bottle or make excuses. What something is worth can be very subjective and as people have said the value doesn't actually represent what someone is prepared to pay. However the 964's desirability does appear to be on the increase, which can have its pluses as well as its draw backs!!
