Rear Door Locks not Unlocking Cayenne 958.2

Has anyone else experienced this problem and, perhaps, has a fix? First it was the nearside rear door not unlocking from the key fob, having to be opened from the inside, but once opened would open from the outside until locked from the key fob again. OPC fix was around £600, so now I have the same issue on the rear offside door and looking for an alternative solution before going to OPC. Is this a commmon fault?

what did OPC replace last time around ?, if its a door lock module or similar then it might be a VW part or something you can get from a breakers

Hi Paul, they supplied and fitted a new NSR door lock (part P9A783911500 on the invoice), however it was the cost of the labour that surprised me!

Yes this appears to be a common issue and it is the door lock actuator/door lock module that fails to work properly.
We’ve had both rear (left door and right door) lock modules fail in different ways in the past. One was not able to opened from outside handle when unlocking the car, but then the outside handle typically starts working once the inside handle is used once.. until next time the car is locked and the process repeats.
I’ve fixed myself with new part and found many options of the part for between £20 up to £250 for a ‘Porsche branded’ item. We all know Porsche do not make door locks so I went for one of the mid range non-Porsche branded items.
The labour is quite significant because if your being careful i would describe it as fiddly. There are YouTube videos and guides out there on the process but none that I found made it that easy.
I think it took a couple of hours minimum and the need to be delicate with the metal cable connection.

Example part link is here below, it’s a shared VW group part and I purchased from autodoc as they had best selection.

Thanks for the response. Yes, mine is the can't open from the outside issue on the rear offside door, it happened about a year ago on the nearside one, so clearly a Cayenne 'feature'! I won't try and do it myself but will use a local specialist rather than the OPC due to cost.

Yes there are plenty Audi Q7’s and VW Touareg’s with the same issue and part, so a job for any decent garage.

Interesting point! In fact I always take my cars in and wait whilst the test is done. The problem only arises when the car has been locked, so when it is presented unlocked the problem is not apparent. I had not thought of the potential MOT issue though.
