Rear hatch won't shut properly

Enquired about hatch pins to OPC recently here is the reply.

The hatch pins are £3.31 each inc VAT. On those though I would normally supply the rubber mountings in behind, the nuts and the washers for them. This would bring each side up to £8.04 inc. but does make the job easier.

I will endeavour to satisfy your request. You wont be surprised to hear that I have a polycarbonate rear hatch though...
 
Quick update...after much swearing and application of WD40 I've managed to shift one of the hatch pins - the other one remains stubbonly stuck [:mad:]

The good news is...the rear hatch is now locking down correctly, if only on one side, but at least the boot is secure now.

When I replaced the heavy glass hatch with a lightweight polycarb part, the hatch started shooting (like a missile) up everytime I drove over a bump/manhole cover. Id already fitted new pins, hence the panel clips...

Its like anything that develops a fault in use whether by wear or damage. You need to study the operation of the system and understand how it was designed to work and how it has failed as a whole system as well as the various parts. Then you can usually repair or replace parts to get it going again.
If your hatch was popping whilst driving I would imagine the pins were worn or the retaining slides were worn or both needed adjustment or replacement .

The top surface of the pins rub away in time and become ovaled so that the retaining slides (which are also worn) do not retain the hatch pins securely.
This is why I suggested turning the pins through 90 degrees. This would bring an unworn part of the pins into contact with the slides . A little bit of adjustment of the cables and slides and the hatch should work perfectly.
 
I tried the same with the pins on my S2, no chance they are rusted solid. I managed to take the whole thing of ok because I have one of those kits with like 150 different bits in it so I had the odd bit required to unscrew the pin unit (ISTR it is a spline bit). Since my hatch works OK on the S2 I can't be bothered to replace them.

Slight word of warning though. On my 968 a few times now I have heard the hatch slapping and realised that rather then a loose pin it has actually been over tightened on one side making it fairly difficult to get the pin to engage properly when the tailgate is pushed down. I remembered the PO telling me it was loose so he got the garage to tighten it up.
