Rear Mail Oil Seal

I've often wondered what seal Berny had fitted. He told me that it was the GT3 Motorsport seal, fitted in reverse. I never thought this was correct, because they are different sizes:

996 - 85x105x11mm
GT3 - 90x110x12mm

Maybe it was the new 997 seal, just fitted backwards. Apparently it's an old trick that works. I've had it explained to me, but I can't remember at the moment. I'll have to ask again and report back.....

Great story by Tool Pants though! And there for the grace of god go I with a dry seal and 20K miles !!!! I guess there is time for mine to leak yet!

i thought it was the motorsport seal in reverse too - i'll ask him again at the regional meeting on Wednesday.
 
Maybe he just bought a caulking gun and a tube of silicone....
