Hi I went to the ace cafe last night and found my cars rear end moving side to side quite alarmingly and it got progressivly worse on way home, then when reversing round corner onto drive got a very loud ginding noise coming from nearside rear any ideas ????

Loose wheels nuts, nearside rear? Sometimes it's more obvious than you'd think - but get it checked out[&:]

Thank you pse just spent half hour on a ramp only to find all new drop links have been fitted new bushes recently could only see toe really out nearside.. didnt even think to cheack nuts will head back down the garage cheers fingers crossed

If the toe is really out then something has come loose, maybe the eccentric screw on the top link. Do you have standard dampers fitted or after market?

Ian.

Worn out track control arm, both sides at rear? And they may look ok from underneath, but you'd need to try and wobble the wheel about perpendicularly to the axle while wheel suspended off the grouond, to test for that.

In bad case could result in symptoms you mention.

thanks guys car fitted with standard dampers will look it to concentrick (however you spell it ) screw all track rods have been replaced some time ago. ive booked it into harvey motorsports to let them deal with im scared i might make matters worse. many thanks for all the tips cheers guys

Are you sure its not the rear PU supports rusted away and allowing the back body work to sway?

I think if the rear suspension was moving it would throw you in the kerb

Grad the bottom of the leading edge of the pu behind the rear tyre, if it moves freely, your pu supports are shot.
Two supports either side, common problem them rusting away

You said you put the car on a ramp ? Was it a drive on ramp or a two post lift, ie so the wheels hang free, so you could have a good pull about without weight on the suspension

it was on A drive on ramp wit a pump jack on it which allowed us to lift the wheels into air so yes we did have a good pull and poke at all suspension componants cheers
To staurt I will double check tyre pressures (god i hope its that)

As well as tyre pressure, its worth checking to make sure you haven't got a buckled rim or a bulge on the tread area of the tyre.
With the state of our roads its not hard to damage a rim or a tyre

It's not the rear bumper supports - they wouldn't make the car drive strangely, unless the whole bumper was dragging along the ground[:-]!

It's not the rear bumper supports - they wouldn't make the car drive strangely, unless the whole bumper was dragging along the ground[:-]!

I suspect the person who suggested that was more thinking alone the lines of the op looking in the mirror and seeing the rear pu flapping about, giving the illusion the back of the car was moving around

Exactly my point. If it was flapping about to be that visible, then the bumper would be virtually falling off[:)]
