Rear Wheel Arch Rolled Edges

8mm is a fair chunk, as i'm sure you're aware, but this will only make you're offset ET48. Not 55 as you're not changing the width of the rim by 15 (16)mm but the position of the rim by 8mm further towards the inner wing. To achieve ET55 you'd have to machine 15mm from the back face of the wheel.
Unless I'm talking out of my hat.

Thanks Sidned.

Alex, Still pursuing the idea of machining the hub. I have spoken to a friend today who has a CNC milling machine and he is happy to take on the machining. I am going out to the garage now to take some dimensions and check the feasabilty. Will post up the results, keeping my fingers crossed that it can be done.

Hi guys,

Took a wheel off to take a look and there is not enough material to machine off the backs of the wheels, so looks like I am going to be changing the wheels for ET65's.

Anyone know someone that has a secondhand pair please let me know. Been quoted £400 for a new pair, seems you get a better deal on price when you buy a set with tyres !!

Andy,

Just to say I have exactly the same problem. I have sportclassic wheels 18x9''with 52ET and pirelli sportcontact 265x35zr18s on the rear of my narrow bodied car on lowered suspension. Adjustable shocks were on max height so cant adjust. Edge of bead on tyre catches wheel arch on bumps and sharp dips in the road. Worst when tyres are new. I have also been told that I need to get ET 65s on a 10 inch wide rim and that the tyres can just be swapped. I have been quoted £225 each for recon wheels from Porchapart. But not done it yet as don't want to shell out a shed load of money on new wheels unless this fix definitely works.

Good to know if any other thoughts on where to get wheels at sensible prices and whether you go for the ET 65s,

Simon

Thanks guys.

Simon P, I would guess we are not the only ones !! Will let you know how I resolve the problem. Are your wheels genuine Porsche jobs ?

Ubertub, Will try Douglas Valley, I need some other bits as well so will contact them and see what they have. Bit concerned about wheels being bent though. You might not find out until you try to get them balanced.

Had my 993 lowered at Wilmslow OPC few years ago now, they had to roll the arches, I believe they heated the paint with a hand dryer so it did not split. Brave or what, any way did a great job and the car was transformed for a grand (those were the days) [:)]
