Has anyone else received a letter from porsche regarding a possibility of a fire due to leaving cleaning clothes in the engine bay
certain cars are being recalled to have extra heat shields fitted

I haven't seen a letter either but then again on a 991.2 I haven’t seen the engine either because you can’t so how could you leave cleaning cloths there. A 991.1 may be different??

it's not much different on 991.1 actually - clip on fan tray below the engine cover - you can clip that off for a bit of a rummage - but who does that. can't see anything but fans normally same as later models.

Very odd indeed.

These cars are now a few years old and if this has come from Stuttgart then they must have been left in the engine bay when they were built!

Pretty poor QC.

I thought April 1st was behind us....
Are these cloths left in by owners or by Porsche? What about all the previous models where it is even easier to leave cloths in the engine bay? This has to be a wind up based on the extra cleaning going on while we are 'locked down'?[;)]

Various of items of apparel may well have been found in the cabin during my earlier years, but I cannot recall any in the engine compartment! [8|]
Regards,

Clive

That’s what I thought When I received the letter
as you can’t see the engine from above
and the exhausts are down the bottom
I can only assume people are cleaning there engine bays whilst laying on there backs ??

Mine received today direct from Porsche GB.
Local OPC shut down anyway and if there are any foreign objects in the engine bay they were left there by them!

I have my letter today also, not sure why/how anyone would be using cleaning rags around the exhaust components... I suspect debris picked up as you drive along the road can come into contact with the exhaust as there are no heat shields in this area to prevent debris ingress - an issue not foreseen in design. Thankfully, being Porsche, even though some cars are getting on for 8 years old they still want to fix the issue... well done Porsche [:D]
Mind, there will be a rush on once the dealers open up as we easy out of Covid-19 lockdown!
Stay safe - Philip

Yes - got the letter today so will hopefully get this sorted out once things return to normal. Must say, my 991 is the first Porsche I have ever owned and even after a short and relatively sedate run, some serious heat emerges from under the rear wheel arches when stopped. At first I thought something must be up, but all appears normal. I can see why though excess heat in certain areas could be an issue.

Yep, got mine this morning, telling me they can’t fix it until life changes!! But who keeps cloths in the back where the cooling fans are???

Would agree that it's hard to see who would leave rags etc in the engine bay or how they would even do it, given the lack of space and difficult access. In any event, would Porsche not then be of the view that this was owner negligence and not down to Porsche themselves? I can't help feeling there is more to this given the recall?

Trawled through Google, The Porsche website and various motoring magazines but there is no mention of any recall. Surely someone is taking the p*ss????

A surprise, yes, but I would have thought it rather expensive and elaborate (needing access to database of 991 owners and ream of Porsche stationery) to be a bit of light entertainment for someone.....

Seems very strange to me....I remember my 997 being recalled way back but it was only
a couple of years old and one of the first of that gen to be built. Maybe it’s a ruse to generate business when they reopen!!! Surely they must have a huge backlog of work so maybe not....
