Red Tail lights

Going by the image of that 320, A combination of red lenses and these LED bulbs might work?

I did not know they do clear fog light lenses, I have the lenses for the indicators so I might have to get a set of those to match.

ORIGINAL: MarkK

I thought we all agreed to start treating our cars like Classic Porsches?[&o]
Didn't know we agreed to do so, but think it would be an excellent idea.

Sorry chaps - this isn't my thing at all. [:'(]

Oli.

Well I thought I'd update this thread as I've just finished tinting my lights.

I originally bought the vinyl from ebay (above). It was ok but didnt completely cover the orange, and it had a slight pink tinge to it. So not the best quality.
When I tried the indicators they flashed red not orange. But once I swapped out the orange bulb for green led, it was bright orange again, you couldnt tell the difference from stock!

In the end I took the tint off as it was poor quality.

I then decided to go down the route of spray tint. After some reading up on the legality of red reverse lights and legality (just remove the bulb and it will be road logal and pass an MOT). I decided to tint darker.

So I've tinted the top half of the lights darker. I know this wont be everyones cup of tea, but I really cant stant the standard Volvoesque lights.

Sorry Nick, don't like it [&o] but it's your car, so as long as you're happy [:D]

As someone who has been rear ended twice now (last time causing £3500 damage to the 944) I'd absolutely not run the risk of confusing any driver behind me

like I said im sure theyre not to everyones taste!

tail and brake lights are both on the bottom row so shouldnt cause any problems with visability.

I'm just happy they no longer look like they're stolen from a Volvo.

Loving them too especially on a red car they just seem right. Could you post up all the details of the stuff you used?

thanks!

I used this stuff http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290475498106?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Its quite a small can but I did mine quite dark and had plenty left over.

The basic steps were...

Remove lights
Wash thoroughly (I used the dishwasher :p)
Wipe over with IPA http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180494028268?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Mask up
Spray 3 or 4 light coats until your happy with the colour. It seems to go on quite light to begin with but don't be tempted to try thicker coats as it will run.
Allow to dry
Fit to car, check if they are dark enough
(optional) thin coat of lacquer. After tinting mine had a matt finish and I wanted them a bit glossier.

Hmmm....each to their own, but for me it doesn't work. I'm obviously biased, but if your going to do any mod on the rear lights, the amber delete to clear is the best option.

Removes the 'Volvo' look and provides a subtle update whilst retaining the original styling.....IMHO

Equally effective on most other colours as well as red [;)]

p.s.... these are old pics and it's been mostly resprayed since, so doesn't look as pink as this anymore.....before someone mentions[:D]

It was this S2 that recently sold on ebay that gave me the idea.

In hindsight I have probably gone a bit too dark.. but my personal opinion is that the tinted rear lights in this S2 look better than any combination I've seen so far.
