formulation of official committee?? thought you said you already had a committee phil have you been fibbing to us?,

I have already said i don't want to be part of a region if its run in this very formal way. for me Porsche ownership is a hobby and the club should be FUN. I think most of the members already have more than anough of "official business meetings" at work.
for me the most important thing is:
1) that we have a varied mix of events happening throughout the year,
2) there is at least one monthly meeting,
3) there is a monthly report of past and present events in PP
4), the web site and also the forum are kept current and informative,
5)that members questions are answered promply,
6) local porsche information/help is available,
7) that ALL new members are welcomed to the region and encouraged to take part.

for me ALL members have a say and are encouraged to take an active roll in the region ...NOT just a select few "committee" members who tend to become a elite/clique that can be very offputting to new members.
looking forward to the meeting its going to be very interesting.

Unfortunately can't be there due to work commitments but agree with Helen entirely.

There are only so many meetings a person can take and committees are for board rooms not car clubs - let the hierarchy deal with that and lets keep the region real.

Surely its all about enjoyment for all?

Enjoy.

Hi all -

I think the agenda as posted by Phil is in the wrong order !

Should it not be -

1. Nominations for RO

2. Voting for RO

3. Formation of a committee - to discuss

4. R8 constitution - to discuss.

5. Future events.

6. AOB

I would suggest this 'formal' part of the club night starts around 8.30pm to allow everyone to get there.

I can confirm that this evening will not progress unless the infrastructure is in place. This has been sanctioned by the Board and is not just a Region 8 issue, but is being rolled out into all Regions, where, in most instances, a committee is already in place.

I would like to answer the points raised by Helen, as I am in agreement with what is said, but unfortunately find myself having to explain it.

Helens points and my responses are as follows:

1) that we have a varied mix of events happening throughout the year - totally agree here, but one persons opinion on what should be done may not be everyones cup of tea and as such, input from 5 or 6 "core members" as a committee before rolling ideas out to the Region Meeting will mean a more varied mix.

2) there is at least one monthly meeting - whole heartedly agree here. This has happenned in the past and can't see any reason why it shouldn't in the future, but with work/holiday commitments, it is important that there should be at least one or two other people that can actually take a meeting and ideally, they will be on the Region Committee.

3) there is a monthly report of past and present events in PP - this is also important, but the responsibility can be shared across the Region Committee so that there is not so much pressure on the R/O to make sure that deadlines are met.

4) the web site and also the forum are kept current and informative - again, totally agree, but with commitments, this may not always be done and with the workload shared, this can be done either by the R/O or other Committee Members, but spreading the workload is important to make sure that there everything is up to date.

5) that members questions are answered promply - again, with the workload reduced by sharing it across the Committee, will happen.

6) local porsche information/help is available - again, this always needs relaying to members, but my commitments have meant this hasn't happenned. Again, one person being responsible for everything will be restrictive, hence the need for the Committee.

7) that ALL new members are welcomed to the region and encouraged to take part - this is important and yes, I admit hasn't happenned to the extent that I would have liked, but again, this is initially an administrative issue and with help from the Committee, will be alot more efficeintly completed.

I ask people to come along tonight with an open mind about the Regions future, but I can say that I will NOT be standing down without the committe and constitution firmly in place and there is a well defined plan for the future. I took the Region on as there was nobody willing to do the R/O job and the last thing I want to happen is for us to go backwards, so the structure must be in place.

I look forward to seeing you all tonight.

Regards

Phil

for me every single member who attend a regional meeting is a "committee member" and can have an equal say in how the region is run. thats what the meetings are for so we ALL can discuss and agree on things.
i agree 100% with Randolph on the order of the agenda.

this decission is not down to one person its up the the members("committee") how the region is run..i really dislike being dictated to.

these are points for discussion later, as I said, the agenda is set and must not be deviated from for everything to work.

i think thats for the comittee to decide phil not you.

your not running a kindergarden here, your dealing with very intellegent, successful, businesspeople who are more than capable of making their own minds up and should be respected , treated as such. and listened to.

i think it might be best if i waited in the bar untill after the meeting so they can speak for themselves.

I'll be at the Coopers arms from 7pm having something to eat. Phil your welcome to join me and maybe we can sort this out like adults before the meeting.

you are entitled to be in the meeting Helen, it is up to you if you decide to join or not, but as I said, there is a process that must be in place for us to move on, without that process, I will not be stepping down.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I will not personally react to comments on here.

Phil,

I will respect and abide by what ever the "committee" (by which i mean the entire attending membership) decide at the meeting not by what you dictate.

and it will be them that decides how the region goes on from there on in not you or indeed me.

Hi Phil

With all due respect how can we discuss future events and committees / constitution etc before we know who is going to be RO going forward into 2006.

Happy motoring - Randolph Coward

at this time, it may still be me. The infrastructure needs to be in place so that "anyone" can take on the role.

Phil you have had 16 months to form your committee and not managed it ...dosn't that tell you something..

the members don't want the region run in that way. Its not down to you. its down to the membership at large and will be the first thing discussed tonight.

a region needs a strong leader who will carry out the wishes of the members.
and do the basic duties of a R/O = attend meetings and also events, promote meeting and events, do a monthly report for porsche post, be a central contact for information on events and local trades, keep the web site and forum up to date at all times. write a welcome letter to all new members to inform them of events and the monthly meeting,
encourage members to organise their own events to broadern the veriaty of events available all year around.

One question for everyone, why the resistance to change?

Also, the forum is not a proper representation of what the members want, but the meeting tonight will be. The agenda and content stands.

good, i'll be at the Coopers Arms from 7pm. i'll see if i can orgaise the conference room or at least the bigger conservatory (that we used to have) else we are going to get very hot and bothered in the little room.
